You can check out all the new subway service changes at the Straphangers online map (http://www.straphangers.org). Unlike the MTA's map, this one lets you type in a street address to locate exactly where you're going, and then shows the subway stations and lines in relation to the street grid, so you know how many blocks you'll be walking to your destination.

Corie, I'm sorry I wasn't clear; I can't get the new maps yet. As of Thursday, I could still only get the 2003 maps.

Jack, thanks for the Union Square info. I'll have to pass through there if I can't find the new maps elsewhere.

You can still get full maps-- at least, about a month ago I got one from the Bergen St. F station...actually, the Transit Museum is supposed to be releasing the newest map and reissuing an old one (for a fee, I'm sure) for the Centennial Celebration. I thought they were supposed to come out in January, but still haven't seen them yet...

I will miss the W train taking me home to Brooklyn. And, in the parlance of the conductors, how can you not love a train called "Whiskey?"

I haven't been able to get a new map at all from a token-booth clerk, even after the new maps appeared on platforms and in subway cars. I've asked at stations all over the city, and not do the clerks not have the maps, but they act like they're tired of being asked the question.

It would make so much sense to send the V to 7th Ave. Brooklyn. That would take care of the empty V/packed F you see on the downtown side during evening rush hour.

yay. more trains I can't use rumbling past my head while I am trying to sleep. I'm sure it will be nice for everyone else however.

I am still waiting for them to change thier minds and send the V train all the way to Brooklyn.. of course then they couldn't leave the G parked on the express tracks any more... so this will never happen.. unless of course the extended the G to church..

The article also talks about the fact that this will be the most radical change of the subway map in years. I can't wait to see the new map. Am I the only geek who noticed that they changed fonts about a year or two ago?
