Mayor Bloomberg was there to see the last of the new, energy-efficient, "pedestrian friendly" traffic lights and pedestrian signs. The traffic light at Warren and Broadway in the Civic Center area of Manhattan was the last in New York City to be changed over to the new LED lights and international pedestrian walk signals. According to NYC.gov, since 2000, the Department of Transportation installed new LED lights at:
- 2,800 intersections in Queens and Staten Island
- 3,700 intersections in Brooklyn
- 1,500 intersections in the Bronx
- 2,700 intersections in Manhattan
