News that police were
cracking down on the cheap Chinatown buses should not have come as a surprise. Any bus that can get you from New York to Boston in basically two of the scariest hours of your life for $20 needs inspecting. Of the 100 buses checked for mechanical safety (drivers were checked for licenses and insurance), 19 were
taken off the road and 16 seized. This comes as the NYPD is still investigating the rivalry between competiting bus lines and the crimes (last week, a stabbing) stemming from it.
