Lights (and Sirens) Out for a Deputy Mayor

Deputy Mayor Carol Robles-Roman, who advises Mayor Bloomberg on legal matters, had been abusing the lights and sirens on her cars to get to work faster, and after a local TV station reported this, they will now be stripped from her car. WCBS had been following Robles-Roman from Riverdale to her Manhattan offices, using the lights and sirens to drive onto the shoulder of the Henry Hudson Parkway. When the TV crew confronted her, Roble-Roman said, "I'm not a firefighter, and I'm not a police officer so I can't tell you I'm going to put out a fire."

The Post pointed out that the Mayor's office has a "no-siren policy" just to cut through traffic, and Mayor himself typically take the subway to work. But that is the beauty of living in Manhattan versus Riverdale.

A firing offense? Seriously? I'm wondering why she needed the lights/sirens on her car in the first place. She's not THAT hot. Also, I think there are of plenty of others who would do the same thing (i.e., use the sirens to get to work fast). People get out of the way for sirens - they're hardly dangerous/accident-causing. But no, she still shouldn't have done that - she's just a deputy.

#1 yes. let's make her mayor. she's OBVIOUSLY a lot more fun than gloomberg. and way, way, way better looking.

#2 despicable??? come on people...who would NOT do this? if you've ever sat in traffic on the west side highway, because a vehicle on the OTHER side of the road has broken down, and some critical mass of MORONS has to slow down to take a peek, hoping that it is actually some grisly accident scene that they can recount later over the water cooler...well, if this has happened to YOU, you can fully understand taking advantage of the curiously present siren. I mean what the hell are they do giving her a car with a siren on it anyway? i say if you've got it, flaunt it.

  • Let's drop the "Deputy" and make her the MAYOR!!!

Help bring the fun back to NYC

Honestly, she shouldn't have been abusing her power like that. And at the same time, she is a VERY attractive woman. In the interest of beautifying City Hall, I say keep her on.

this woman should be fired, or at least have her car taken away for abusing her position, putting other drivers in danger, and mostly for then blaming it on her driver and claiming she did not know the her car was being driven on the shoulder with the flashers on.

Wow! She's a hottie! How is such a hottie the deputy mayor of your folks' big town? Very impressive. She doesn't deserve to be fired simply because she's so hot!

Hear hear, Dave! Whistle tips! WHOO WHOOOOO! I miss Bubb Rubb.

  • boby

She looks about 19. What exactly does she do?

  • this is totally a firing offense- first, she's endangered the lives of people every morning for the last year- second, she's abusing her official privileges, and third, she's an idiot. i can't believe bloomberg would let someone like that stay on.

  • I'm all for reading more stories of automotive misuse on Gothamist. Who else couldn't get enough of whistle tips?

  • zak

this is despicable. am i the only one that thinks siren-removal is a bit of an underpunishment?

also, there are 3 trains near riverdale. why does ms. robles-roman need to drive to work? if she likes driving so much, maybe she should move to LA.
