"Jenny I've got your number"

2004_02_tommytutone.jpg

Oh, the joys of eBay and number portability: Someone is auctioning off the phone number, 212-867-5309, as in the 212 number of Tommy Tutone's 867-5309/Jenny (lyrics). You, too, can have 212-867-5309 and get at least five calls asking for Jenny, Tommy, or incomprehensible giggles a week. [Via reader Daniel]

Jenny, Jenny
You're the girl for me
You don't know me but you make me so happy.
I tried to call you before, but I lost nerve
I tried my imagination, but I was disturbed.

You can buy the album at Amazon.

I love the future. This is just about the coolest thing I have ever seen on the internet. Vonage and number portability have allowed for true telephone number arbitrage.

this is brilliant - my roommate and i were just talking last week about how we want the phone number 867-5309.

ever notice how the dash seems like it should be after the 5, not in it's proper place after the exchange?

This auction was mentioned on Good Morning America this morning! The power of Gothamist!

Does anyone know who the mind behind this auction is? Imagine the kinds of messages you'd get. I think I called it in high school once, around the time I discovered marijuana and 80's compilations...And a few weeks ago, a girl thought she could get me off her back by offering this up as her number (we're currently f***ing). This has to be the most used/abused phone number in America. Power up.
