We Love the Subs!

Ah, to pass the time watching the crazy Quizno's mice/hamster/things (Flash required). God bless their advertising agency to sell this concept through and God bless Quizno's for deciding to run with it. [Via our good friend Garth, who lives in the Windy City (for now); rachelle just moved there]

It's tied with a $1 coupon for one of Quizno's toasty subs. Quizno's locations in New York City.

Scroll down, archive includes the "Huns" commercial (YES!). I miss these guys fierce. There are even handmade buttons and fridge magnets of the Spongmonkeys on eBay as I type this. These guys are part of our cultural heritage now.

  • jo mama

i havent seen the comercial. does anyone have a link so i can see it???

  • Kel

I love those commercials!!! my friend and I sing along all the time. Check out this site : http://www.rathergood.com/moon_song/

    So hilarious!!!

  • BurgerNerf

Oh dammit, I think I missed my chance to save the "Huns" commercial at Quiznos.com...sh*t.

Quizno's should market the Spongmonkeys like that singing bass gizmo. Then I could watch them dance and sing all day, and piss off everyone who doesn't like them.

  • Joe

"We are not the Huns"...I laughed for ten minutes, good stuff. But I think the commercials are just another example of a trend in advertising. These days it seems every major ad campaign tends to try cracking one's funny bone. I'm not complaining though.

  • GroovyShaggy8301

I saw a new spongmonkey commercial during Futurama last night and big joy is in my heart...."We are not the huns." incase you haven't seen it yet, head on over to quizno's web site!

  • Ok, does anyone know the tabs to the song? Or know where I can find them? It sounds very similar to the beginning of "Uncle John's Band" by Grateful Dead, but I can't figure it out. If you have them, PLEASE E-MAIL ME!!thanks.

  • Scott

Those things are funny but hwo could something like that make you want to buy a sub? The sad thing is Quiznos subs are real good.

  • Amy Evans

THIS IS THE FUNNIEST COMMERCIAL I HAVE SEEN MY WHOLE LIFE!!! I LOVE THE MICE!!!!!!! THEY ARE DA BOMB!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Leader Mouse

    I love the subs!!

Cause they are good to me

    The Quizno's Subs!!

    They are Tasty!!

    They are Crunchy!!

They are Warm because they Toast them!!

    They Got a Pepper bar!!

Holy crap its absolute genius that they got a freakin pepper bar and they put that in their song so annoyingly that its awesome!

I sit in front of Quizno's with my guitar all day and play it over and over and over and over until physically detained.

I am the leader of all dead mice. Hail Quizno Overlord

  • BurgerNerf

Not only is the Quizno's Spongmonkeys campaign still going on ("Big joy is in our hearts!" With ANGEL WINGS, hahahahaha!), but recent alternate ad campaigns (Space Ghost, et al) are pretty sleepy by comparison.

YES those little guys made me wanna go eat their sammiches. Awww yeah.

NOW Quizno's (quiznos.com) has a non-Spongmonkey video touting their low-carb flatbreads...based on "FISH HEADS!!" Flatbreads, flatbreads, eat them up, yum!

  • What the hell are those little critters?

HAHAHA, best commercial i have seen in a long time!

  • Jessica

I saw the Quiznos commercial and I about died laughing at it. Everyday I bug my friends with the song. It rocks, the rodents rock, the idea of the rodents are awesome keep up the good work you bunch of rodents

  • Colt

Man i cant get enough of that commercial. I actually went to quiznos.com and downloaded the commercial. Man thats great. They should make another one.

  • Catelyn

This commercial rocks!!! Everyone in my school loves it, and we would go to eat there, but sadly there are no quiznos in our town. We've dubbed the mice things "dead radioactive hamsters", and asked teachers to tell us how to sing the song in french/spanish/latin/german. Sadly, none have granted this request. I've been threatened with detention because I constantly sing it. I've gotton the guitar tab online, and it is wicked fun to play!!! My brothers wandered in and started singing, and it annoyed the crap outta my dad tho.

Hope they run this one for a long time.... ITS THE GREATEST AD EVER!!!!!

  • P

We love the subs....commercial! At least I do. I've been bugging my 8 year old daughter daily to the point now that when I say, "you know why you're hamster does that?," she says, "NOOOOOO! it's NOT because he loves the subs!" Kudos. Fun ad. My wife hates it, but I caught her humming it more than once!

  • BurgerNerf

Not only did the commercials send me back to Quizno's (in full violation of my diet), I wish they'd market figures of those two little buggers. The guitar player in the commodore hat just brightens my day.

  • Tiffany

This is so hilarious!!! Their creepy but funny. Who came up with this?

  • peregrine

I think they're fantastic. I couldn't believe it the first time I saw one but they are a riot. It's definitely made me think about checking them out. It's hard to get the song out of your head; I suspect this will work well for them.

    We love the subs!

  • Prites

The ad is just disgusting. Let's get real. It's effective but will never make me go back to Quiznos. Sad thing is that they actually have great sandwiches. They should fire whoever approved this ad campaign!

  • Ingrid & Kelley

First of all--- the mutated Argentinian sewer rats (which we have after many hours of "high" deliberation named)were definately thought up by pot-heads. Not only do we want to congradulate them, but are very interested in knowing how they pitched this ad idea?

  • Lili

I LOVE the quiznos commecials..i find myself wanting to eat there every time i see those insane mice-things( funny i never thought mutant rodents could ever actually make people HUNGRY)but for whatever reason it works...rock on quiznos

  • mmm...mmm...mmm...mmm.... **MUST GO TO QUIZNOS!!**

    NOW!!!!

  • andrew

mutant rodents sharing screen space with the food you are trying to sell? yuck. i'm never going to want to try a Quizno's sub now. or am i just in the minority and just the fact i'm thinking of the brand is good? but seriously, the thought of it turns my stomach. why couldn't they have just used the kittens instead? seems like a bad campaign idea.

  • the guy's name is joel veitch and i believe i saw some of his work on the creative DVD last december as well - i guess he's getting a lot of recognition!

btw - watch the gaybar one - its hilarious

    at the gaybar!

    gaybar!

    gaybar!

  • Sam

    singing i mean.

  • Sam

Is this done by the same dude who did the signing cat stuff?

  • Sam

    Call me a hater.

I hate all of Quizno's commercials since their first national campaign. Simple question... does any of this want to make you go eat a Quizno's sandwich?

  • Jared, Butcher of Song was used on a tv commercial (maybe for Blockbuster?) once upon a time.

  • Iheard

Actually, the Rathergood guy was not paid for the VH1 spots, and is suing them over the ripoff.

  • Lisa Fain

Yesterday, I ate at Quizno's for the first time based on my love for the ads, and I reckon I'm not alone.

  • Noom

The same guy does the viking / heavy metal / punk rock / electroclash kitten videos that VH1 was using last year. I still can't believe that he's making money out of it.

    Still, good for him.

  • is this the first time something that started as a goofy joke on the web got picked up directly as a tv commercial? seems like other stuff must have made the crossover but i can't think of any.

  • Jen

I have to say, these commercials defy logic, but I love them. I want to see if sales have moved.

  • mike

in other odd fast-food advertaising related (old) news... thought you all might be interested to hear what the band Ween came up with for a Pizza Hut "Insider" (cheese hidden in crust) ad campaign in 2002. Agency accepted, Hut rejected... never saw the light of day.

    enjoy!

  • I decided to check out VH1's "Best Week Ever" after posting about it. (I learned MY lesson; it's the worstity worst worst show ever, until the Exaggeratedly Expensive Life of Justin Timberlake Show came on after it.)

Anyhoo, these commercials turned up on said network, and I had such a stupefied look on my face, my wife--who walked in right after they ended--thought I'd had my brain sucked out of the top of my head.

  • actually, rachelle has yet to move. but she has found an apartment.

  • Karru

First time I saw them I was speechless and the second time I was laughing. Third time I was all set for the jingle and sang along.

  • kristen

Thank You for mentioning these ads! No one in my immediate surroundings seems to find them as gut-bustingly hilarious as I do. so, now I know I'm not so crazy.

  • Yeah, I'm on day 4 of annoying my girlfriend by randomly singing "We love the subs, for they are good to us" in a falsetto voice. This replaces my annoying her with my rendition of the Taboo commercial (Dress to kill, Kill to dress...) that NBC played 20,000 times each morning.

  • He mentions the Quiznos ad on his FAQ page.

Here's a link to the original inspiration

  • april

My dad used to own a blimpie and sorry to say this but yeah there were a few mice sightings there but I wouldnt ADVERTISE the fact. I enjoy the creepy commercial but cant believe a fast food place (which probably has rodents) would chose such a concept!

  • Quizno's needs to rethink associating themselves with mutant rodents.

  • aaah! i was wondering why it looked so familiar when I saw the commercial. I'm sure they paid the kid, it's the same voice in the commercial and exact animation. mmmm, quiznos.

  • shadowy

I hope they're paying the kid who came up with the ideas: see rathergood.com.
