Smoke Didn't Get In My Nose

Mayor Bloomberg has responded to accusations that he ignored cigar smokers at an event held at the St. Regis last weekend. "I didn't see anybody when I was there...I arrived late. I stayed for about an hour and a half and it very well could have been and I know the Department of Health is investigating," the Mayor told the Post, after its "Cigargate" story. Other event attendees claim cigars were smoked at his table, and he turned a...insensitive nose to it all, enraging other bar owners who had lost business since the smoking ban. One mayoral aide claimed that the Mayor isn't responsible for reporting smoking violations, but the Mayor's office is trying to backpedal that one. Gothamist thinks the Mayor needs a physical, although loss of smell is a part of the aging process.

Don't get me wrong, no one dislikes Bloomberg more than me (I worked for Badillo thereby hating Bloomberg before it was all the rage to), but seriously, what was he supposed to do? Ask the people to put it out? Go get a cop?
