Hi,
Is there still a special night of Holiday jazz and other music in the Columbus Circle stores? And a Christmas tree lighting there? We remember one on a Monday night a few years ago. But we don't know if it's done annually. We're in San Francisco. We want to book a trip for some special festivities during the holidays. Can you tell us dates?

Thanks,
PJ Husack

Not to mention there's already a Whole Foods in manhattan (near FIT), pretty much the same as this one. And yeah, the Pathmark on 125th is gargantuan.

I'd much rather have an uptown branch of the Park Slope Food Co-Op.

1. An upper west sider who's never seen a supermarket is one who's never been to Fairway
2. No one in the upper west side has not been to Fairway
Ergo, said "upper west sider" in the article is from Staten Island...

In my experience, Whole Foods has the most disgusting (hippy stains, girl beards, patchouli stank and socks n' sandals), slow and annoying workers -- made even more infuriating by their outrageous prices. I'll get my free-range organic tofurkey elsewhere! Or not. Western Beef still does it for me.

FYI, there is a large Pathmark in manhattan, it is next to the FDR at the Manhattan bridge. It even has a parking lot.

MUG's right. The massive entrance atrium (which got so much play in the Times preview article) is like a giant white hole. It disappears shoppers so quickly, the place will ALWAYS look like a ghost town from the street.

I'm simultaneously stoked and creeped out by Whole Foods. After much exposure to them in DC, I find them kind of cult-like in their enthusiasm. And not always the best (hello, Fairway and Freshdirect). Besides, who goes grocery shopping AND to the mall?
