The Graduate, Part 2

News that Jennifer Aniston has picked a post-Friends project is less interesting than the actual conceit of the project, which is written and will be directed by Ted Griffin (who wrote the remake of Ocean's Eleven and Matchstick Men). According to the Hollywood Reporter:
Griffin's project will find Aniston starring as a young woman who discovers that her family's darkest secret was the inspiration for the book and the movie "The Graduate" and that she may have been the biological offspring of that scandal.

This has to be a joke, right? Because it's basically just like the jokey The Graduate, the Sequel, premise that The Graduate screenwriter Buck Henry faux-pitched in The Player. Man, next we'll be seeing Habeas Corpus.

Buy The Player on DVD. Or watch most anything in the Robert Altman, like McCabe & Mrs. Miller, The Long Goodbye, and even Dr. T. & the Women (which has a very underrated Richard Gere performance)...but avoid Pret-a-Porter.

  • If you've got an afternoon to kill, definitely get a hold of the brilliant but very lengthy SHORT CUTS.

  • Kristen

you forgot to mention Ted G's horrible underbite and the fact that he was a horrible boyfriend to a certain fabulous producer who we know and love, but who shall remain namelelss.

  • Gorbo

ugh, by all means, AVOID PRET-A-PORTER. even though lili taylor is in it.

  • "Kansas City" is also a must-skip, despite Harry Belafonte's VERY fine performance.

  • Mindy

Also, if you get Sundance Channel, Tanner 88, the HBO series about the ficitious presidential candidate is re-running for the next several weeks.

  • Jen

Robert Altman shot some commercials for E! a year or so ago.

I actually enjoyed Dr. T; I thought he did a great job of creating this surreal environment in Dr. T's office with all the wacky Texan ladies.

  • karatechimp

You must also include his Grisham adaptation (Gingerbread Man) as a must miss.

He actually just shot some commericals for an Agency I work for but if you saw them, you wouldn't know it.

  • Mase

Have to concur on "iobject"s view of "Dr. T and the Womwn" -- although Richard Gere does decently, the story is so slow and tedious, I really did not care about his performance much less the movie.

  • McCabe and Mrs. MIller is in my top five all time. One of the greatest American films ever made... along with The Godfather II, The Magnificent Ambersons and Evil Dead II: Dead By Dawn.

  • iobject

i'm sorry, but was i the only person who thought 'dr. t and the women' was awful, tedious and boring???

  • monty

i anxiously await "the three" by donald kaufman!

  • Actually, there IS a movie coming out that sounds an awful lot like Habeas Corpus...it's called "Return to Sender".

    Seriously.
