Super Bowl Ads 2004

For non sports fans, the Super Bowl is watchable usually because of the commercials. The Pepsi ad with the little music downloading criminals was great, and The Simpsons commercial for Mastercard was amusing, though maybe a little predictable. It was much better than many others, like the Sierra Mist ad with the guy and dog jumping into a pitcher and a glass of water. Our favorite might have to be the anti-smoking ad from American Legacy Foundation, featuring glass filled popsicles, from Shards O'Glass, whose website is richer than websites of some actual companies.

Stuart Elliott of the Times loved Shards O'Glass, but felt the Frito Lay grandparent smackdown "used physical comedy so broad it made 'Dude, Where's My Car?' seem like Molière," making that the closest Ashton Kutcher will ever get to French classics.

yeah the shardsoglass.com site is pretty keen... i liked the donkey/clydesdale and numerous others i listed on ye' ol' blog...

fedex's "alien" was hilarious. i also liked the monster.com "today's the day" campaign as a whole.

The horse farting ad is one of the most pathetic, tasteless ads I've ever seen.

Shards o' glass rocked. Thought the masses in the USA Today poll thought it was one of the worst ones out there.

Also liked FedEx and Pepsi Bears- Bud spots were just a little too predictable, though I did laugh at the preppy guy getting chomped on.

Except for Frito-Lay and the AOL spots (American Chopper RULES) I thought they were terrible, honestly. I had a very visceral, negative reaction to the Pepsi/iTunes ad, which I pirated and retitled "I Fought The Lie" for my video blog, fyi:

the one with the wife yelling at the ref/husband plays right into that "women are horrible hags you have to live with AND they make you do all the work AND you're an idiot myth" that my future husband wrote so eloquently about a few months back, See Male Pattern Self Absorbtion on 1115.org. the commerical made me want to boycott budweiser, but that would just be silly.

I loved Shards O'Glass as well - that and the one Monster commercial where the exec and the potential hire have similar morning rituals were pretty good. But I found the AOL Topspeed commercials to be kind of too much like those "Ratchet & Clank" (I think those are the ones) commercials for the video game, with Tractor Beam, etc. But those guys are still a riot.
