Meccapixel's Mike C goes to Welcome to the Johnsons on Rivington but doesn't feel welcome by their bathroom, even though it does bear some resemblance to the bathroom in Trainspotting.

Gothamist on bathrooms.

Yeah, that bathroom is a gem. But I've come to conclusion that a person just needs to get over it and use whatever facilities are available. There are too many great LES bars that would be off limits otherwise.
Maybe these bars could put out a tip jar for restroom renovations and janitorial expenses? I'd gladly contribute.
It's such a nasty bathroom. There's a wider view here:

Maybe its something to do with the fact that I'm only a visitor fr London, not a New Yorker, that I say this: but that nasty bathroom does an excellent picture make! Intimidating as it is, some of the graffitti & stuff you see on the Underground and trains is amazing and its almost a shame they have to be washed away...
If I had to really REALLY go (#1 of course...#2 just ain't happening in a place with no lock on the door) I would have, regardless of the gnats that would have attacked my private parts. Luckily, I was just a short cab ride from my house on the other side of the Willy B Bridge. At least I know how my own bathroom got nasty...
CBGB will always be famous for the toilet on the ministage-thing. The Continental's bathroom is nasty. There are always puddles--even in the ladies' room. Siberia's are pretty bad, too; it's not helped by the facts that the locks don't seen to work and it's only spitting distance to Port Authority.
ah, siberia. and the johnson's! names from my past and recent past. you know, you can't wave your arms around at wttj on a saturday night without hitting some oberlin grads. it's worse that bedford ave. barf.
i mean, i love them, all of them. really. smooch. but hey, why do we always monopolize the same places?
