In his continuing campaign to bring good eats at good value to New Yorkers, chef Adam Perry Lang of Daisy May's BBQ has launched a fleet of chili carts. Currently two of the planned six are out selling, as the Times' describes, "bowls o' red":
12-ounce cup with a flour tortilla and a garnish of shredded cheese and sour cream, all for $6...made with cubes of beef in a forcefully warming sauce that blends three or four kinds of fresh, dried, roasted and smoked chilis. There are no tomatoes. Beans and rice are optional.
So if you're anywhere near 39th and Broadway or 50th and Avenue of the Americas, you're in luck. Or, if you're too scared of the outside, rally up your office to order up some Daisy May's BBQ ribs that Gothamist loves. Daisy May's BBQ also has a Super Bowl package: For $20, chili, ribs, barbecued chicken, coleslaw and potato salad, enough for four people. Contact Daisy May's BBQ at 212-977-1500.

Well, I know what I'm ordering for the superbowl...
they need one of these downtown
Thanks, Jen. The matter of "where to eat lunch today" is settled. 39th & B'way is close, close, close.
Adam: ditto. I'm 4 blocks away, I'll race you!
Hi there. I can't find the Super Bowl special. :)
Booger snaps. They were still waiting for the chili elves to deliver the goods at the 39th st. location...10 mins or more wait. Rocked BK instead. Somehow it's not quite the same.
Flashmob. Tomorrow (1.29). 1:24pm. Chili cart @ 39th & B'way. Do not arrive ahead of time. Do not acknowledge the rest of the mob. Order chili. Leave the area.
My compatriot and I trekked over there and waited for over half and hour. The poor guy had to borrow my cell phone to call the truck and ask where the hell it was.
But now I am back in the office, and the chili is absolutely the stuff. Well worth the wait.
"But...I was told that I could have chili...last time I didn't get any chili...and the...people-to-chili ratio is too high..."
"Just pass, Milton."
Tim: I guess you beat me there. Benefits of arriving lateno line and a bowl of red. Mmm.
Jen: I told them Gothamist sent me. The guy in the cart said, "Yes. That and the Times article is why we're so busy today!"
At least now they have a good reason for not giving you a place to sit.
Still, at 6 bucks a pop, it's just as overpriced as the Daisy May's mothership.
6 Bucks a Pop?! I'd Rather get Wendy's Chili, mmmm =P~ droolll
I'd still pay $6 for the eh chili from across the street, $6 is not that unreasonable for me. But I work in Midtown, where lunches get pricey.
So, ummm, how much was Gothamist paid for this commercial posting?
Not a dime. We noticed this in the paper this morning, plus a few people, knowing our love of Daisy May's, emailed us about it.
Note also in that article that AZ has closed, probably due to the collective wrath of the NYCBloggers.
