Hey, fancy, self-obsessed ladies of Sex and the City: Don't mess with Brooklyn! With the recent plotline of Miranda "sacrificing" to move to Brooklyn, residents are annoyed. Brooklyn Borough President Marty Markowitz gets into the act (of course) and tells the Post, "Obviously, she doesn't know that there are more people moving to Brooklyn from Manhattan than vice-versa." A Park Slope resident adds, "A Manhattanite moving to Brooklyn was a big deal 15 years ago, but not anymore. All of us out here know what Miranda and her Manhattan-centric friends don't know: People in Brooklyn have a life!"

Gothamist agrees that Miranda's attitude about Brooklyn is outdated, but considering the show's almost anachronistic tendency to be both trendsetting and hopelessly behind (a writer who doesn't know Google? Cosmopolitans?), this is just par for the course.

A cab that won't go to Brooklyn? That's so 1995.

What I want to know is where she found a brownstone that costs the same as a 2 BR in Manhattan. Where are they moving to, Brownsville?

Marty for Mayor ... when was the last time we had a big media hound as hizzonor.

Marty cannot be mayor because he has never set foot in Manhattan, God love him.

i cannot even comment on the level of LAMEness of this episode. how about the STORK lady with her baby/dog delivery to poor damaged charlotte??!
good god, how do they keep winning awards.

marty's already achieved his childhood dream of being brooklyn borough president. i don't think he has higher political aspirations than to stand on the bridge and welcome us all home from the blackout. and that's why we love him.

That storyline is awful. I was personally offended. First of all, the house was ridiculous. Brooklyn brownstones in Cobble Hill and the like are going for millions of dollars. And the cab not going to Brooklyn? Not only is that against the law, but the only time I've ever seen that happen is when its pouring rain and all the cabbies want to go home to Queens. Sacrifice? I think most New Yorkers would give their first born (even a cute little redhead like Brady) to live in their own brownstone with a backyard and tree-lined streets and still be only a 4 minute subway ride from Manhattan. How can SATC be so out of touch? I dealt with Carrie not knowing how to email in the 4th season, but this is ridiculous

I've actually been shopping for a brownstone in Cobble Hill, and they can be had for $900,000-$1m. So, a considerable discount from some Manhattan apartment prices. But also, this whole Brooklyn-anxiety thing is pretty stale. Reminds me of the time when Grace moved out of Will's 2-bedroom on Riverside . . . to a massive Brooklyn Heights vintage 8. To save money. Yeah--poor, poor thing.

Yes, this show is so poorly written, it always surprises me people don't say so more often. Week after week, nothing but cliched observations and unfunny jokes. The topper came this week when Carrie's sadistic but rich new boyfriend actually said in response to one of her lame musings, "ah, that is why you are a writer!" I nearly hurled.

eh, SATC can do what they want. If anything, it just makes it more fun to walk around my parents' suburban neighborhood with a Brooklyn Brewery shirt to scare the natives. They don't have to know that I live on a tree-lined street in Carroll Gardens near Grocery. Let them imagine I'm a bad ass that has beaten the crap out of several muggers.

this was the same episode that Carrie discovered espresso - i think that counts as at least 15, if not 20 years out of date for a new yorker.

Sadly, I have encountered cabs who won't take me to Brooklyn, as recently as November. They just drive away before you can open the door. I have kicked a few in the bumper. I have also mastered the "climb-in-throw-down-your-huge-bag-and-say-in-an-authoritative-voice-'We're-going-to-Park-Slope--take-the-Manhattan-Bridge." That usually works.

What's even worse than this show being woefully behind at times is those who who live in NYC and use this show to tell them what NYC is all about (see my roommate's girlfriends and their "yea brooklyn is ew!" reactions)

thank god it is ending

A cab refused to take me to Brooklyn last night, so it isn't all the past. He did take me to a higher traffic area to catch a different cab, so I probably shouldn't be too hard on him - even if he was just dumping a crappy job on his coworkers. I hate when that happens to me at work.

The way she was carrying on, I thought they were moving to Staten Island.

Dude, her shit should try to represent in JERSEY.

Sorry to give a goose-fleshed chill to all the Brooklynites out there.

i encountered a cab on Houston just one month ago that would not take me to brooklyn (to williamsburg for gawds sake)... he practically ripped my fingers off from the handle as he sped away. so yes, it still happens.

and i'm sorry, BK is good for a certain set of lifestyles, but SATC has it right for some of us: i've had 4 years in Manhattan, and Brooklyn for the last 2 years --- as i now file the paperwork on my new lease on the West Side, i can say that I know Manhattan, Manhattan was a friend of mine, and Brooklyn is no Manhattan.

in fact, as Mike C put it, Manhattan is the new Brooklyn!

I live in Southern Calif and even I knew Miranda's hang up about moving to Brooklyn was stupid. I hate this show. I can't wait for it to end. At least the little dog was cute.

ok...the show is going to end. sad for some, great for some. but to bash it is not right. do not sink to the levels of the manhattan loving writers. if the show is really that crappy, then why do you brooklyn lovers watch and care what it says about brooklyn? hmmm...maybe the show isn't so bad until it trashed your hood. i live in bushwick and i hate it. can i afford williamsburg? NO. so people who live in williamsburg don't even start because you pay manhattan prices to live in a borough outside of manhattan but still be close enough and why? simply because manhattan is where everybody wants to be given a choice!!!let it go, people.

Has anyone thought about the fact that little Brady's name is now Brady Brady since Steve and Miranda got married? I find that hysterical....you would have thought the writers might have thought about that in advance. I guess he can keep her maiden name but still....
