The Pope John Paull II's effort to get in touch with culture does not stop at just seeing The Passion of the Christ. Oh, no: The Vatican also hosted an outreach group from Poland that broke into, well, breakdancing. The Pope said, "For this creative hard work I bless you from my work," after the group spun his head on the Vatican's inlaid marble floor. John Paul also said, "Artistic talent is a gift from God and whoever discovers it in himself has a certain obligation: to know that he cannot waste this talent, but must develop it." Word to the pontiff. [Via KB]

Even though I know for a fact that the photo is real, could it possibly look more Photoshopped? ;)
I used to do breakdancing in the mid-80s, and, let me tell you, the ability to perform "the windmill" is on par with transubstantiation of bread.
FYI, the pope has not seen Gibson's movie and the quote from the USA today article is not true. It was reported by Peggy Noonan in the WSJ and the next day found to be incorrect.
This is the same Peggy Noonan who puts on a false, breathy sexy-circa-1950s voice every time Reagan is mentioned? She was inaccurate? Perish the thought!
I'm crossing myself furiously, and I'm not even Catholic.
is it me, or does the pope look like he's dead in that photo. or at least not paying attention.
Actually, the Pope has seen the film, although you are correct in asserting that his statement that "it is as it was" is now in contention.

I did a doubletake when I first saw that article on CNN.com. I thought I was reading The Onion for a second. CNN is ridiculous.
Dancer: Yo, Pope! Check it out! Lock n Pop! Yo, JP, You just got served!
Pope John Paul: Wait til I get offa my chair and show you some moves, biatch!!
The Pope can't handle that kind of Visual Stimulation. His Head would Explode
I always thought you had to at least wear a collared shirt before you got to meet the Pope...
Apparently, all you need is a dance and a dream to see the Pope.
And, red, while CNN is ridiculous, what about the Vatican? Is this their way to reach out to the urban youths around the world?
Pope John Paul II continues to inspire the world with his spirit of appreciation, understanding, and acceptance. I applaud His Holiness for granting an audience to those talented individuals.
