Brooklyn...Nets...Who Knows?

Mayor Bloomberg and Brooklyn Nets investor (so we hear) Jay Z; Photo: NYC.gov

Mayor Bloomberg, don't just hold the jersey, wear it! You should go to the Atlantic Avenue mall and buy yourself some Enyce sweats, Pumas, and a Sean John hat and let it ride. Just ask Jay-Z for help; we're sure that he'd be happy to take you shopping. Maybe Beyonce could help you pick out some eye creams.

In actual Nets/Brooklyn news: Ben McGrath's Talk of the Town piece looks at how Bruce Ratner's Frank Gehry may be one of many hyped but never built sports arenas. Brooklynites are divided on the possibility of the Brooklyn Nets arena as are critics, plus there are the tricky matters of fighting residents' lawsuits as well as environmental reviews.

The proposed arena boundry is (ccw) Atlantic, Flatbush, Dean and 6th Ave. The 4 office buildings (2.167 M sq ft) containing the retail space (367 K sq ft) are clustered around the arena (800 K sq ft). 5 non-residential structures, 3.334 M sq ft.

The residential portion of the plan calls for 4.4 M sq ft in 13 buildings E/SE of the arena.

If you want to visit Red Lipstick (corner of Bergen and 6th Ave) or explore the neighborhood it's easy to get to - 2/3, 4/5, M, N/R, and soon once again the B/D (2+ years and that Q/W thingy still confuses me). The LIRR Atlantic terminal is adjacent to the subway.

Staceyjoy -- I love your store. For those who have not been there, you should check out this adorable but stylish boutique while you still can.

Red Lipstick is exactly the type of small business that makes this area of Brooklyn so charming and community-oriented.... a characteristic that will be completely obliterated once the construction starts.

  • I stand to lose my tiny boutique, RedLipstick, which is half a block from the proposed arena site in Prospect Heights, and my only source of income. The shops location, 64 6th Avenue, which is now a thoroughfare between Park Slope and Fort Green will become a dead end next to a huge construction site for many years. I've written Markowitz, Bloomberg and Schumer, and have gotten no answer so far as to how they plan to compensate small businesses negatively affected by this scheme. My customer base is targeted for demoliton. Needless to say, the whole neigborhood is being traumatized, People come into the shop crying, not buying. I won't be able to stay open much longer at this rate. Really disappointed in Bloomberg for backing this.

  • i think jigga would make sure that mayor mike bought his line of reebok sneakers - the s. carter collection.
