Big Apple Blogger Bash 2004

Last night's Big Apple Blogger Bash was great fun, in spite of AZ kicking us out and needing to relocate to Siberia. (Hey, AZ, you may have good food, but the service your bar and lounge gave us was abominable and know this: It doesn't help to turn away scores of people who like to detail the minutiae of their lives on websites.) We enjoyed meeting a lot of bloggers we've been reading but hadn't had the chance to meet yet; we're sorry we didn't get to meet many others, but we had to leave when tien told us not to use the Siberia bathroom. Thanks, tien, we owe you one.

Thanks again to Paul Frankenstein who organized the gathering and did a great job of keeping it together as AZ inexplicably turn away our money. (As Tainted Bill says, "Fuck AZ.")

Bluejake on the BABB and a gallery of photographs. Other posts on the evening: rachelleb (called "Rachel" by a reporter), tien, Amy and Brian.

Just as a followup, AZ closed up a few days later. Makes sense I guess.

This should be an easy google bomb. just put "worst bar in NYC" in the anchor text.

  • I emailed the manager (hey, AZ's site design sucks as much as the service) so we'lll see if he replies...

I've already gotten a few emails from bartenders who want the bloggers to come to their bars next!

  • Kevin smart. Cheaper drinks yes. Free food yes. No sucky managers yes. Good beer also yes.

  • You pegged it, Jen. Blog Nation isn't going to take this lying down.

    Let the flaming begin!

  • It was great to meet Jake at the Blogger Bash as I tried to explain what nycbp.com is all about (drinking). I really want to get the next gathering of such cool people into a better drinking establishment than that awful AZ (which I guess refers to the manager: Absolute Zero). I can't believe they tossed us out!

I'll find us a bar for the next one with cheaper drinks, better service and maybe free food.

  • I'm just more upset I didn't get to write something on Siberia's walls....

  • The only good thing that I can say about AZ is that when the waitress spilled my $18 drink, she did replace it.

  • Shucks. I missed the bash by an hour or so. AZ's service was just as chilly even after you all had relocated.

  • We left quickly and early due to starvation, and as we were bundling up, some nice gentleman was turned away at the door by the three gatekeepers. "Sorry, the lounge is full".

I'm not sure how much longer it took them to kick you guys out, but the trend had already started.

Two questions: did they know you were coming and did the manager ask you to leave or was it someone else?

  • Sorry this cold kept me from the bash, but thanks for posting this (sniffles).

  • And we haven't even mentioned the $10 drinks yet. Sheesh.

Sorry I didn't get to meet more of you; we adjourned to Spuyten Duyvil out in Brooklyn, where the bathrooms are quite nice and you can't beat the beer. You can try, but you just can't. Trust us.

  • jen, i'm just looking out for the masses. i'm kind like that...

  • So who's going to be the first one to Cafe Press with the "Fuck AZ" T-shirts?

  • that reporter wasnt the only one calling me rachel. ::ahem:: jake!
