lol Right Sterling.
Thats the last thing thats going to happen. The Great Cosmic Balance dictates Yuppies Attract other Yuppies from outside of the city. Therefore if those yuppies move out of their posh apartments . . . . they will be replaced by MORE YUPPIES since they only pass on the info about new apartments to their yuppie like comrades.

This whole thing stinks of Sleaziness. Im sure plenty of regulations will be bypassed for this thing to be built. And Who the HELL in Brooklyn anyway will go and pay to see the NETS?? Will they Overprice the tickets like the Knicks do after the Move, probably.

Everyone quit your whinin'. Its not like they're extending the Jackie Robinson to the Prospect Expressway (though that's a fabulous idea!)

The proposed arena might actually (shock) give local businesses a boost, and I'm not talking hipster bars and tofu joints.

And like ert97, I'm also in favor of the Olympics, because Flushing Meadow park is a DUMP, and I'd like to see "Queens West" actually turn into something.

Newsflash to rr: residential towers are already in the works for 4th Ave. Just check out the window of Aguayo & Huebener on 5th Ave.

I'm with Sterling and ert. I think it's a great thing, especially since it doesn't have the "monument in the middle of an empty parking lot" design that most stadiums suffer from. It looks much more accessible and welcoming.

Bear in mind I also slightly lean more towards "evolution" rather than "preservation". So I say bring on the Brooklyn Bling.

Since I no longer live in the Prospect Heights / Park Slope area, (Queens is where is at -- well hopefully someday)I think that my non-disgust to this idea could be from my detachment. However, I always think of New York as constantly evolving -- and evolution always involves shedding something of the past and leaving it behind. The incorpoartion of old and new is something that I love about NY. While I admire those who have worked to re-establish that area of Brooklyn, this would bring tremendous clout to Bklyn and (this is debateable) economic stimulus.

Keep in mind I that I also am for the Olympics in New York (so much re-development of the home borough), so I might just clearly be a crackpot.

Oh, my God - they just care about the money. That's a stunning insight! You're aptly named, Kojak. Fella - you've got to build new housing every now and then. The reason "the poor" have so much trouble affording housing in NYC is that there's not enough of it. (I'm sure you'll come back and argue that NYC needs more newly-built, subsidized lower-income housing, aka "insta-slums", but the fact is that when you add luxury housing to the city's inventory, yuppies cease competing for those prosaic cold-water flats you're so worried about being flattened in Flatbush.)

I like both "Brooklyn Rats" and "Brooklyn Iconoclasts" - maybe we could add "Brooklyn Disaffecteds", too.

I couldnt agree with you more rr.
They're going to really displace alot of lower income families and screw up Flatbush even more.

But what do they care? They just care about the Money. They Will hold a couple of town meetings and go ahead with the project dispite what anyone was to say. NY does not need the Nets.

Kenyan Martin is going to hanging out in my neighborhood on a regular basis? That's just great.

A new name wouldn't hurt. New uniforms wouldn't hurt. New team colors wouldn't hurt. A new head coach certainly wouldn't hurt.
