Law & Order In Your Home...Literally

If only Law & Order was looking for an apartment that doubles as unofficial Jerry Orbach fan club, NY chapter: rachelle reported the best police procedural on TV was looking for apartments in the West Village. She took this photograph of the letter from the locations department, leading us to work on a presentation about "Why Law & Order" should film in our apartment ("We will make hot dogs for Briscoe and flirt with Green"). Then, reader DMK emailed us with this news flash from his local committe board:
On Wednesday, January 14th the television show "Law & Order" will film interior scenes at the following locations: 168 West 18th Street between 6th and 7th Avenues 150; West 19th Street between 6th and 7th Avenues; 54 West 21st Street between 5th And 6th Avenues. Approximate Time: 7am - 11:30pm.
Is L&O in your building? Or down the street from you? Let us know! And on Law & Order tonight, an all new episode:
When a former bookie is murdered in an apparent professional hit, Detectives Briscoe (Jerry Orbach) and Green (Jesse L. Martin) search the victim's background for a possible suspect. However, when the victim turns out to be a mob informant who sent a local kingpin to jail for the past decade, the detectives sets their sights on a real-estate broker moonlighting as a killer-for-hire who is allegedly taking orders from the mob. Sam Waterston, Elisabeth Rohm, Fred Thompson and S.Epatha Merkerson also star.

gee, after that hot photo, jen, i wonder how many guys will email you with, "yeah, sure, L&O will be filming at my place. care to come by -- or better yet, let's meet beforehand, sit in a cozy restaurant, drink wine and discuss season 3 highlights."

They scouted my apartment in the West Village when I lived there back in the late 90's. The advance guy loved the place (they must have been going for a cinema verite feel, or maybe they needed a scene for a drug deal). He returned the next week with a team of about eight people, including the locations manager. The manager opened the door, looked in, and issued his verdict: "No."

Of course, this was the pre-Gothamist days, when Law & Order was just a TV show.

They used my East 3rd Street apt 3 times, all for L&O proper (Not SVU or CI). There's a great Catholic Church across the street that they use every season for one storyline or another. Sadly, the last time I know that they shot there was the day after I moved from of my native NY. :(

Lock, my guess is that your apartment would have been a crime scene. The opening: A bunch of cute, lingerie-clad girls are hanging out, complaining that their neighbor's stereo is too loud. One goes to complain, only to see the door is ajar. She yells for the neighbor to turn that racket down, slightly pushing in the door. Then, she gasps when she sees the young hipster sprawled in a pool of his blood that is ruining his Paul Smith shirt.

That's an apocalypse I could live with.

No way- it would go like this: "Scene: grimey lower east side apartment, after midnight. Bedroom- an old man lying next to his wife. Loud music is pouring through the window from the bar/club/restaurant downstairs. Old man exclaims "jesus- goddamn racket!" and moves to the window to scream some more obscenities. Just as he gets to the window, a series of three loud guns shots rings out. Man dives for the phone and rings 911."

jake, that's possible, too, but usually there's a glimpse of the body. And I was just trying to inject a little sex into the opening.

I got a call from the L&O set dresser one time. She wanted to use a prop from a music video that I directed awhile back. It never happened but I still have her contact info in case Gothamist wants to do a proper interview.
Do you do interviews on Gothamist or just commentary?

And don't forget that one of the great Law & Order/Homicide: Life on the Street crossover episodes is on TNT tonight (8-10 pm). It conflicts with the regular NBC broadcast, so you have to pick your loyalties.
