Holiday Train Show at NY Botanical Garden

2003_12_nybg.jpg

Gothamist would love to head up to the Bronx to check out the New York Botanical Garden's Holiday Train Show. Models of various New York landmarks, such as the Statue of Liberty, Apollo Theater, and Brooklyn Bridge are made from flora (leaves, twigs, berries, pinecones, seeds, etc.), with trains and trolleys running throughout the Conservatory. It might be a great way to enjoy Christmas in New York without being in Midtown.

Look at photos of the Holiday Train show. It's just a Metro North train ride to the Garden's gates (directions).

definitely worth the trek. i was up there the other day, plan being to get as hefty a winter dose of palms and orchids as i could while not getting trampled by the train show crowd. i left thoroughly un-humbuged, caught off guard, all warm and fuzzy-like, the trains (and most of all, the miniature landmarks) having stolen my heart. it's far more interesting than it looks in the photos.
