Gothamist enjoyed with the first part of the Mike Nicols–directed adaptation of Angels in America, and we were especially impressed with our friend Justin Kirk's performance. Justin was in the New York Times this past weekend where his hair's malleability is revealed (his hair "can go both ways") and tried to move interviewer Alexandra Jacobs off the subject of politics: "How about something on my blue eyes?" Why not talk about politics? Well, as Justin told USA Today last week, "I just want to be vaguely charming and not say anything of substance, because I don't want to be me. I don't want to be Justin Kirk and have something to say. I just want to be an actor." Then he tells USA Today that he loves the Mandy Moore album, Coverage. Yikes. Well, maybe that's part of his charming/no substance ploy. At least, we hope so. As for his hair, Gothamist likes it short and spiky (this is our gambit for being charming/no substance).

You can see Part 1 of Angels in America all this week and next. Part 2 airs on Sunday at 8PM. And Gothamist on the rave reviews of Angels in America.

It is an absolute pleasure to watch him perform! I sincerely believe he is going to make a huge contribution to cinema, theatre, and comedy! He is truly a rare talent.

the song is entitled "Moonriver" . A very romantic, classic song. I wish Im in Louise's place.

  • I just re-watched the first part Angels tonight and all I can say is, "Wow." Justin Kirk is an amazing talent.

  • I wish he was gay, but anyway he´s still a superb actor.

I just saw the 3rd part of 'Angels..." and I must say I started to cry seeing Prior dancing with Louis... Gosh, and it's getting better and better with every part. I don't think I'll bear it. It's the best thing I've seen for quite a looong time. It's so true that sometimes it's pretty scary. I really admire Mr Tony Kushner for his imagination and talent to write such a piece (and the script for 'Angels...')

ps Can anyone tell me what's the title of the song Prior and Louis were dancing to? I would be very grateful...

I first saw Jusin Kirk onstage in LOVE! VALOUR! COMPASSION!, and I've been interested in his work ever since. I saw the movie version of LVC and was equally impressed and moved. And ANGELS IN AMERICA clinched it. This guy is headed for an Oscar. He is definetely attractive, despite his every man look. I am equally impressed with all the nudity he's done. First, he is in great shape and has great assets, but more for the lengths he goes to to create his characters. I'm looking forward to FLANNEL PAJAMAS. Way to go Mr. Kirk!

Just saw Angels in America, wow! I quite honestly thought it was dull until his part came up. And that's the truth. And I was more attracted to his perfect acting then the role he was playing. I give Angels in America a 3 on a scale from 1 to 10, 10 being perfect. I give Justin 10 1/2!

Dave, the DVD is coming out September 14th. I was holding out for it, but then I heard that there won't be any extra footage or deleted scenes so I bought the VHS Emmy-consideration version from Ebay. I am an impulse buyer.

I'm also from Oz, and I just loved Angels... Especially the speech at the end. Hopefully it'll be released on DVD.

Speaking of sound problems, during thelast speech, you can hear birds, or pigeons "prrr-ing," while Justin is talking.

    Anyway congrats on the emmy!

Although so far down the track it's unlikely even Justin's rellies will read this, 'Angels in America' just screened here in Australia last week to rave reviews. It's the 1st time I've ever seen Justin Kirk- what a performance. I fell in love with Prior, wanted to reach out & give him a big hug at the end.

But is Justin equally adorable? I think yes. The fan base has spread.

Do yourself a favour Justin: seriously consider coming to Oz to work on ANY projects should the opportunity arise. We have wonderful theatre companies and the film industry is flourishing. Plus we'll wrap you up in cotton wool and keep you all to ourselves.

  • Sandie's Sister

I'm not related. I'm not an actress. And I'm not married. Hey Justin, if you're ever in the Wine Country. Look Sandie up, I'd LOVE to see the crossed-eyed crab!

  • Abby

Hey everybody, no one probably reads this anymore but I found this board after doing a search, I loved Justin as Prior! Ineteresting that somebody mentioned the poor sound mixing in Angels in America- when Prior is sitting on the bench and Louis tells him he wants him to "make up with him", Prior I THINK says back, "Make UP?" But all you can hear is the "UP" and it sounds really weird. And another scene, where Joe is in the hospital room with Roy and tells him he is with a man, Roy asks, "you're with a man?" and Joe says "Yes..." and if you turn your TV up really loud Joe also says, "I am."

Weird. Anyway, keep on talking about Justin! He is hot!

  • DAIN

Um.. I'm related to both Justin and Sarah (posted above) and trust me, he's a dork. I'm not kidding, I got some funny stories. He does this really dorky dance he calls the "crossed-eyed crab", It's really really dorky.

I just finished watching 'Angels in America' in London, England. Justin Kirk is very attractive and also very talented!!! I am an actress myself so I know these things. P.S Is he single?

  • Lin

You're related to Justin??? Oh,my heart stopped for a moment.I'm so in awe of him. He's so talented and seem sso eternally cool, that it's just impossible not to be.

  • Sarah

Nope Justin is not gay. He just plays convincing gay roles. We are related so trust me I know. I will tell you though that he is one of the most down to earth guys you will ever meet!

  • D Lynne

Justin Kirk is so totally TDF, but is he gay ????

  • Maureen

I really think he is brilliant. (and cute).

I have seen Love! Valour! Compassion!, Jack and Jill, The Ten Unknowns (play in NYC)-And now, "Angels" of course. He deserves recognition for this role.
