Panda Mention on SNL

Pimp Pimp and Tina Fey

Aside from Paris Hilton's appearance on Saturday Night Live this past weeknd, Weekend Update was notable for the mention of Shuan Shuan, the panda from Mexico, who was sent to Japan to mate with Ling Ling. Tina Fey said they were set up by their friend, Pimp Pimp, and then when she saw the image of Pimp Pimp, Tina said, "Aw...Pimp Pimp." Pandas make a great punchline AND they are super cute.

I swear, you must be the only weblog with a mascot. you should endorse a little league baseball team this spring. Just imagine the adorable little jerseys.

oh! my! god! this is such a great idea. can someone find out how we can sponsor a little league team and call them the Gothamist Pandas? I would personally be willing to kick in $500 towards it. Anyone else down?

put me in for a hundred, jake. you can make the semi-internally via tinyfactory.

can't someone assign Drudge or at least Woodward & Bernstein to uncover the mystery behind Tina Fey's alluringly saucy facial scar? enquiring minds NEED to know!

there you go again, uncle grambo, with your SURFACE obsession - she's really friggin smart and funny. leave her (and the scar) the eff alone!

oh this is great, I wonder if they can make batting helmets with little panda ears. :D

I'll put down $50, but only if it's a bicoastal pee-wee panda league.

why does it need to be little league? why not a baseball or softball or kickball blogger team?

I wish SNL would stop ripping off Gothamist's material. Get your own cute animal, Fey.

ok- i've done some research and it's $500-800 to sponsor a little league team- our options are:

http://www.westsidebaseball.org/forms/WSLLSponsorReg.pdf

We get the gothamist.com name on the back of the jackets- and i bet we could negotiate to get a team named the pandas for a little bit more- especially if we sponsor one of the 6 or 7 year old teams. Jen- can you call up? It'll be hilarious- and then we can track their progress through the season. I wish another big nyc site like Gawker would pony up so we could go head to head with their team. The Gothamist Pandas vs. the Gawker Paris Hiltons! it'll be so cool.

No no Jake! It would have to be the Gawker Stalkers!

Heh! Gawker Stalkers, bien sur! eebmore, thanks for the suggestion, I'm putting out the feelers. Of course, I'm partial to the West Side League as they play many games right outside my door - I can even see the field at 72nd in Riverside Park from my apartment. More later.

Also, Uncle Grambo, Jake is uber obsessed with Tina Fey's scar also. A year ago, he said to me, "Find out about Tina Fey's scar for me." I said, "But she doesn't talk about it ever." "I don't care! You can find anything out."

This is all I know -- from fallonfey.com. Hmmm...

1- How did Tina get her scar?
Tina addressed it in a Nov. 25, 2001 NY Times article. "She started as a co-anchor for Weekend Update with a cast member, Jimmy Fallon, last year, wearing her navy suit and trademark glasses. Her other trademark is a scar that runs along the left side of her face, although she won't discuss it. "It's a childhood injury that was kind of grim," she said. "And it kind of bums my parents out for me to talk about it."
