Joey Ramone's Place

Now that the Joey Ramone Place sign is up (as shown by his mother, Charlotte Lesher), what's the over-under on (a) this first one stays up and (b) how many signs the city will have to create each year to replace the stolen ones? On the upside for the NYPD, they'll be able to arrest would-be sign thieves at that corner in the middle of the night; okay, so think about the over-under for that, too.

Tim Hall "vogs" the naming of Joey Ramone Place [via Gawker]. The official Ramones' website and Gothamist on the news of the sign.

The over-under is that I will be definitely stealing one of those signs.

Ah yes. Next time you're forced outside of CBGB in the cold rain just to smoke a cigarette, think about how much the Bowery will feel more like home when a "Joey Ramone Place" sign gives landlords yet another reason to jack up the rent.

I wanna know when they're going to put up a sign for "Paris Hilton Place".

Before anyone goes and tries to steal the sign, just remember that NYU has put up a dorm across the street and in the process littered the block with security cameras. I wouldn't be surpised if one of them has been refocused to include the new sign. And a question for anyone who might know: I beleive that NYU calls the building "the 2nd Street Dorm", does this mean that it's now "the Joey Ramone Place Dorm"?

To think, I grew up counting crack viles on that corner when it was just Second and the Bowery...
