NYC Gets Furnished and Organized

Two big furniture/home stores open this weekend: First, there's affordable and chic home furnishings company West Elm opening a location in DUMBO (75 Front St., Brooklyn, 866-WESTELM), so you can finally see the things you'd only been able to drool over online or from the catalog. Then there's the 25,000 square foot Container Store in Chelsea (655 Sixth Ave., 212-366-4200) where you'll be find most everything for your jamming-and-cramming-stuff-into-your-tiny-NYC-apartment needs. Mayor Bloomberg opened the Container Store tore this morning and 10 percent of all its opening-weekend sales will go to the Design Industries Foundation Fighting AIDS. All the more reason to get an array of hangers in different colors!

I was just at the ultimate home store -- IKEA. Oh, if only the one in Brooklyn was open now!

I just returned from the West Elm store... if you like the catalog, you'll love the store, although at first, it seems more like a showcase than a retail outfit. They do, however, sell all the furniture there, with flat-rate delivery of $65.

i was at west elm yesterday morning... nice... there are a few things I'd like to get.
