Cate Blanchett, Sonic Youth Fan

Cate and Sonic Youth

We thought Cate Blanchett was cool ever since we became fans of hers after Oscar and Lucinda, but she even manages to remain interesting while talking to Fox News' Roger Friedman, the pandering gossip columnist. After the premiere for her new film, The Missing (in frontier America, she teams up with estranged father, played by Tommy Lee Jones, to rescue her daughter), Blanchett tells him, "I didn't know how to shoot a gun or hold it. So my husband said, 'Just hold it the way that Sonic Youth holds their guitars.' And it worked." Her husband is cool, too.

Cate is in three movies this fall: Veronica Guerin, The Missing, and The Lord of the Rings.

  • oh? she looked pretty gone. she was wearing some black and white dress, boots that came up to her knees maybe right above. she wasn't exactly sitting like a lady either. i took a blurry picture of them that is in my post about the show.

Oscar and Lucinda was indeed a great film -- though there was debate amongst friends as to what the ending truly meant.

  • Hmm...if she name dropped Live Skull or Glenn Branca, then I'd be impressed. Then again, she's probably not the Dennis Miller type who has people running for their Trouser Press to look up all the cool references she just threw down. Can't get too underground on Fox News.

cate would make an excellent kim gordon in a film about sonic youth

"Oscar and Lucinda" is the film I discovered Cate Blanchett in as well. However, it was in the underwhelming "Pushing Tin", with her convincing American accent, that I came to the conclusion that she was one of the best actresses around. Being a Sonic Youth fan only increases my admiration.

The blonde is Sienna Miller, Jude's new gf and costar in Alfie. More on her later.

  • on a similar note, jude law seems to love the white stripes. he was at the concert last night with a hot blonde number (she was actually thanked by jack when he left the stage).

mos def was there too, but i didn't see him until mos and jude were talking, so i dont know how into it he was.
