Top Movies for Guys

Men's Journal has a list of the 50 "Best Movies For Guys," and they have the top ten online. Executive editor Mark Horowitz tells the Post, "True guy movies don't like to hit you over the head with their message. They just like to hit you over the head."

1. Dirty Harry
2. The Godfather
3. Scarface
4. Die Hard
5. The Terminator
6. The Road Warrior
7. The Dirty Dozen
8. The Matrix
9. Caddyshack
10. Rocky

Of course it's easy to stupidize how men feel about their movies. Gothamist will cringe when we see the list of Best Girl Movies that has Pretty Woman with the reasoning being "True girl movies don't hit you over the head with their message. They just like to hit you with montages of shopping."

I would have expected a Traci Lords film or three to be on that list.

Where's The Right Stuff? Where's Top Gun? Where's The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly? Raiders of the Lost Ark? The Wild Bunch?

(for that matter, Deliverance?)

See, I understand your attempt to steer clear of traditionally testosteone laced films but I still don't see Donnie Darko as a guy film.

Then again, it's a subjective list. I was just looking for reasoning beyond the fact that you're a guy and it's your list. Not that you need to explain.

(I can even see In the Mood for Love and Solaris as guy films.)

then the following would definitely have to get axed:

8> Solaris (tarkovsky)

9> Donnie Darko

10> Life+Debt

While I think Cool Hand Luke is a good choice (and should have been on their list), I'm not really seeing Donnie Darko as a "Guy" film.

(I like it just not for that list)
