MTA Subway Policy: One Person, One Seat

A woman was given a $50 summons for resting her bad leg (two metal rods, blod clot) on an empty seat in a V-train. When the former schoolteacher tried to protest, the police said, "Haven't you heard of zero tolerance?" claiming she should have seen signs of the MTA cracking down on those taking up more than one seat. Um, no, and Gothamist wants to know where have the police been when those people rest their extra bags on the seats next to them, unwilling to give them up even for pregnant ladies or small children or the elderly.

An MTA citizens' advisory group would like transit workers to be more cheerful when interacting with customers.

Gothamist on the sleepy F-train rider who was fined and other outlandish tickets of late.

MTA Police have the same police powers as the Ny State Police. They can make a car stop anywhere in NY State & Connecticut and enforce and vehicle and traffic rules. Keep it in mind...

  • Mr. K

Here's one that'll really send you for a trip.

I was driving on the LIE (Long Island Expressway) in the Westbound lane on 5/29 @ 2:40am. As I was driving past the LIE/Grand Central interchange, just Junction Blvd, I passed an MTA POLICE car. No sooner than I passed the the MTA police car I saw in my rear view mirror the lights from the MTA POLICE CAR!!!! So, I pulled over. Would you believe the MTA PIG gave me a ticket for speeding!!!! No radar, No pacing, No nothing.... I might add that I have a Mustang 4.6 and no, I wasn't speeding. Could someone tell me how an the hell does a MTA police officer pull a motorist over on the highway and issue a speeding ticket???? Can someone explain that one to me?????

  • What they need is laser enforcement of those seat rules.

When someone has an attitude about what they paid for vs. what you also paid for, a laser can start moving down the aisle to the location of the dispute.

And just like in science fiction or Greek mythology, for that matter, the person who doesn't seem to know how to fit in one spot, can get "laser sized" right to the exact measurement.

Soon, everyone would understand not to mess around in Procrustes' subway car, and there would be no more problems.

"Laser sizing in five, four, three, two, one . . ."

  • U-nanimous

What about those studly men who are obviously so well hung that they have to open their legs as wide as possible when they sit?

They usually manage to take up about half of each seat on either side of them.

They also usually have a dour, "go ahead, ask me to move" look on their faces.
