Letter from the Publisher: Gothamist Events

As I mentioned earlier, Gothamist is rolling out some new features. Today, we're launching the beta version of the Gothamist Events feed, a listing of concerts, shows, happenings, pow-wows, drunken posses, and other occurances that we feel may interest you, our surly, panda-obsessed readership.

The events listing is being edited by a new member of the Gothamist family - Mindy Bond, of late a contributor to Flavorpill and a fully qualified expert about things going on around town. She's so far ahead of things that she knows where your band is going to be playing before you guys have even met. Editorial assistant Willa Paskin is helping Mindy crank out the page, and Matt Kingston is responsible for the events feed programming. Special thanks are also due to Andy Baio, who has allowed us to use Upcoming.org to power the entire page.

How can you help? Go to the page, check out the listings, and let us know if we're on the right track. Send Mindy ideas for events that you think people should know about, and join Upcoming.org and submit those events online. And if you want to join the staff and cover a certain beat - tribal music, non-primate art shows, nude baking contests, whatever- send me an email and I'll get your ass signed right up.

And an upcoming event to look forward to: Another Gothamist-601AM happy hour, to be scheduled soon.

Where's the Happy Hour event listing?

Thanks, PatGav - I added that line and I should have been more clear. But the next happy hour will be listed, don't you worry.

The events page looks great. More random lectures/symposiums, please.

looks great.. i think im going to busy every day now!

one thing.. maybe it's just me, but on the days when there are many listings of things to do i get confused looking at the "when" and seeing only the time.. then i have to scroll back up to remember which day im looking at. it would be redundant but maybe helpful to put the date & time under "when". anyone else have that problem?

Hey, what about little color-coded icons so you can more quickly tell whether something is a reading or a concert or what?
Nice job!

beyond the good color-coding idea, is there a link on the main gothamist page to the events feed? I did not see/could not find one.

Willa Paskin is your new Editorial Assistant? Not THE Willa Paskin?

Is there an RSS feed for this? BTW, the last line (under Jan 13th as of now - a day with an event) says "No Gothamist events at this time."
