The Decemberists

Gothamist did not know much about The Decemberists before seeing them last week at the Mercury Lounge, but one thing we were sure of was that the song, "Song for Myla Goldberg," had to be about Brooklyn author Myla Goldberg who wrote The Bee Season. And lo and behold, the Onion AV Club and Journal News confirmed things. The Decemberists also have a song called "Billy Liar," an homage to the play and movie. Both songs are from the album Her Majesty the Decemberists.

Yo La Tengo wrote a song about Billy Liar, too, didn't they?

That was a great show...Any idea how the guitarist injured himself? I was a bit disappointed that they didn't actually PLAY Billy Liar at the show. But maybe they left their glockenspiel at home. Does anyone know what the cover song they played was?AVB

It was indeed a great show, better than the one they did at the Luxx a few days before.

Oh, and according to their tour diary, the guitarist was in a motorcycle injury earlier this year.

ah i am sad to see that i missed this show; the decemberists are excellent and their first full- length album, "castaways and cutouts," is simply amazing.
