Subway Blues on the 2/3

2003_11_2line.jpgFriday's track fire on the third rail of the 2/3 line - a fire that snarled traffic for half a million New Yorkers - led to diversions Friday and the rest of the weekend. The MTA claims that the 2/3 will be normal today. But if it's not, here's NY1's explanation of how your commute is shot:

- No service between Times Square and 149th Street on the No. 2 line, and No. 3 trains are not running between Times Square and 148th Street.
- No. 2 trains are operating on the No. 5 line between Nevins Street in Brooklyn and 149th Street/Grand Concourse in the Bronx. No. 3 trains are running from New Lots Avenue to 137th Street/Broadway.
- Riders can take a connecting bus from 137th Street and 145th Street and Broadway to get to 149th Street/Grand Concourse.

Please, MTA gods (yes, we do believe in you), please let it all be okay. Even though you claim all service is running normally, we'll believe it when we get to work with only the shoving, squeezing, and usual amount of ill temper, versus mass hysteria and frustration.

Yo, that's like why I took a taxi this morning.

I decided to take the 1/9 instead and of course it's the train behind the one with the sick passenger.

Dammit, I took the 2/3/1/9 trains from Brooklyn up to Inwood and back yesterday and had no problems. This morning, when I needed to be at work on time, it took me twice as long as usual.

The 2/3 was supposedly running, but after 20 minutes of waiting, I took the 1/9. Why it took the 1/9 20 minutes is beyond me...
