Media watchers, mark your calendars: Katie Couric will interview Jayson Blair for a special (Dateline, probably) and Today show appearance next year, timed with the March 9 release of Blair's book about his, ahem, escapades/downward spiral at the Times, according to Lloyd Grove. Couric tells Grove, "Hopefully, it will be a full account. I'm especially interested in this because I came of age during the whole Janet Cooke controversy, and this seemed to have echoes of that."
Blair's book, Burning Down My Master's House, was sold in September.

KATIE! please, no softballing!
Yes, that's worrying...Katie asking "Tell me, are you okay now after being a crazy plagiarizing drugged up journalist?" and being okay with Blair just saying "Yes, I'm okay."
for the love of god, would this midget PLEASE DROP DEAD!
It would be justice if the publisher later tells him that the contract was just a made-up one and there is no deal . . .
I wrote to NBC begging them not to give Blair any air time but no one ever responded. Katie Couric ought to be ashamed. What message is she sending to English students and wannabe writers? That it's okay to cheat and steal and plagiarize, that even if you get caught you'll still get a book deal and air time on broadcast TV? Blair should be banned from owning a computer or typewriter ever again. He is a disgrace.
