Jack's Luxury Oyster Bar

Oysters Eight Ways

Jack's Luxury Oyster BarA good way to start an evening: Meet a friend at Jack's Luxury Oyster Bar, which is handsomely decorated in a dear carriage house. Kick back with some Kir Royales or some other apertif. Enjoy the quail egg with creme fraiche and black bread with jalapeno cheese spread. Then have Oysters Eight Ways. And Oysters Rockefeller Deconstructed. More cocktails. Then the Shrimp Cocktail. And fresh scallops. Waddle to the street happy.

Jack's Luxury Oyster Bar, 246 East 5th Street (212-673-0338). There's also a $75 tasting menu.

Gothamist visited another Jack and Grace Lamb production, Blue Goose Cafe.

I was taken to Jack's for my birthday--great food, really nice atmosphere, and very good service. One of the best NYC restaurant experiences I've had, but I also wasn't paying the check. The bananas foster are unbelievable...

I haven't been to Jack's L.O.B., but I've been to his and his wife's Jewel Bako and had the greatest sushi orgasms of my life. Not only is the food beyond compare but Jack and Grace spoil you with their hand-and-foot service and anecdotes.

having experienced this particular jack's outing with gothamist i must also recommend highly the shrimp cocktail. delicioso! however, the place is wayyyyy tiny.

Yes, it's super tiny, even for tiny T. T and I have been to Jewel Bako and Blue Goose together also, both are lovely. We didn't get to the Bananas Foster. Next time, though.

I've never been to Jewel Bako, though I'd like to go. Went to the Blue Goose once and liked it, the super-friendliness/attentiveness that is so much a part of the Lamb's mini-empire is really nice, I live right around the corner and eat at a lot of restaurants in the East Village. Often I have great food, just as often have crappy service (varying from simply indifferent to actually surly). I also just enjoy walking by the Blue Goose, it's like a little slice of suburban living room on that block...

i'm happy to hear such good things about it, as i've wanted to add this to my short list of places to go.

however, chowhound boards on it have been brutual. literally, reply upon reply about how disappoiting it was.

i'm going to check it out myself and report back!
