Meish.org has created an Album Cover Challenge where you try to name the artist and title for 60 different album covers. Some are easy, some just aren't.
We wonder how critical album cover art will be, as the boom of MP3s (even legal ones, purchased from the artists) continues to grow. Maybe artists' websites are the new covers of the future.[Via MetaFilter]

call me old-fashioned, or just a sucker, but i love buying CDs, new or used, in large part because of the album art.
agreed - there's no shame in loving album art and packaging. That's part of the experience!
I love digital music and I love my iPod, but the thought of music only existing as files on the Internet bothers me a little. I'm not going to sit around with grandchildren and share my MP3 collection with them.

For Mac users, Clutter puts icons of the album art on your desktop. These icons, when clicked open the album in itunes. So even downloaded music can have cover art.
