Quentin Tarantino Know-It-Some

2003_10_killbillpic2.jpgGothamist doesn't know how to take the 8/10 score we got on the Guardian's Quentin Tarantino quiz. On the one hand, we thought we knew our QT. On the other hand, why the hell should we know the QT, it's embarrassing we knew that much to break 5.

Fametracker gives Uma the Fame Audit (Assets: Hot! Liabilities: Dull!); we also love the Rebecca Pidgeon tangent. QT has a potty mouth.

Kill Bill bloodies theaters today. A.O. Scott calls it 'tedious...off-putting...endearing." Hmm, sorta like QT himself!

Lucy Liu doesn't look Japanese one bit. She's still hot though.

I gotta say this... I think Lucy is beautiful and easily the hottest charlie's angel, but it seems like any movie she's in instantly become corny due to her presence. kill bill was cool, but they should have gotten some one else, possibly lesser known, to avoid making the film corny/even less believable. Hell, even her translator assistant (julie dryfuss) came off better, more believable. as much as I like her visuals and attitude, I'm sad to say, it appears that Lucy isn't a great actress. on the other hand, I usually HATE vivica fox (come, 50 cents???), but I think this was one of her decent performances. a surprise. and, of course, UMA THURMAN rules (ready to have her baby). but, egads, those feet! get'em away, get'em way...!

And hey! When you look at IMDB, it's Rebecca Pidgeon's 40th birthday today! Happy Birthday, Wooden Lady!

Eli: Lucy Liu's ethnic heritage is explained in dialogue in the film. She is described as Chinese/American/Japanese, I think.

Rio: are you sure someone besides Lucy could have pulled off the role? Also, does Tarantino seem concerned with being 'believable' in this film? Lucy seems to bring the perfect mix of America and Asia to the role, and also the perfect mix of being delicate and powerful.

Re: Lucy

Totally, there are dozens of really good, dynamic Japanese actresses who could have made that role not only believable, but cooler. Lucy is "cute" with her little petulant attitude (and fine as hell), but she always looks like she's joking no matter what she's doing. And as far as I can tell, "petulant" is her "only" acting move. Plus, I like how Tarantino populated Pulp Fiction with mostly unknowns or has been actors (bruce willis and travolta were suffering badly at the time). Putting one of the biggest female stars in hollywood, Lucy, in the new film kinda made the whole thing too slick. Plus, while I love her to death, she's not a good actor. When Uma took someone's head, you were like "Oh sh-t!" When Lucy took her henchman's head, you were like, "Yeah, right.."

p.s. rather than give the name of some obscure japanese actress, I think it's more illustrative to note that Pulp Fiction's top bad guy, Marsellus Wallace (Ving Rhames), was "totally" unknown at the time, nevertheless he is one of the most famous villains in film now. Would have loved to see the same for Oren Ishii. But Lucy simply doens't have the acting chops for that. Heck, I'll even go so far as to say that I've seen Lucy's on screen assistant/translator (Julie Dryfuss) in other films and "she" could have done a better job as the yakuza boss.

QT, I liked kill bill, when i first saw it in the movies i was amazed by all the action .It is one of my favorite action movies ,i also can't wait to see volume 2. I wish i was in it doing all the action stunts , it must of been fun making it .good luck on kill bill volume 2
