Ghettopoly

2003_10_ghettopoly.jpg

Black clergy in Philadelphia, upset over a new board game called Ghettopoly, had threatened retailer Urban Outfitters with a boycott if it continued to carry the game. And as of Thursday evening, Urban Outfitter is no longer selling the game.
2003_10_uostatement.jpg
According the AP, game creator, David Chang, says "It draws on stereotypes not as a means to degrade, but as a medium to bring together in laughter. If we can't laugh at ourselves ... we'll continue to live in blame and bitterness." Hmm. The description of the game on the Ghettopoly website reads:
Buying stolen properties, pimpin hoes, building crack houses and projects, paying protection fees and getting car jacked are some of the elements of the game. Not dope enough?...If you don't have the money that you own to the loan shark you might just land yourself in da Emergency Room.

2003_10_ghettostash.jpgHey, isn't "hoes" supposed to be "hos"? Or "ho's"? The game includes:
Game Board, Loan Shark Tray, 40 Crack Houses, 17 Projects, Pink Slip Cards, Ghetto Stash and Hustle Cards, 7 Game pieces (Pimp, Hoe, 40 oz, Machine Gun, Marijuana Leaf, Basket Ball and Crack), Counterfeit Money, and 2 Dice (non metallic ).

And lest people think that Chang is only developing a game-based game, there will be Hoodopoly, Thugopoly, Hiphopoly, and Redneckopoly. Dude. catbirdseat need to get a game manufacturer behind Hipster Bingo. Or make Hipsteropoly.

I hope those same people that are boycotting this are also boycotting BET, MTV, 95 percent of rap music and those God awful stereotypical ghetto/basketball/shuckin n jivin movies at your local video/dvd chain.

user-pic

Well, as much as I'd love to own this game, I think it's interesting that someone who likes to laugh at himself has no plans to create LoMeinopoly or something to that effect.

Well, you learn something every day. I had no idea that trackbacking is what made posts show up in the comments. (I'm Miss Kitty Power, btw.)

But back to the subject at hand, I'm glad the protest was effective as the laundry shirts and Abercrombie one. And they probably do protest those other things, but don't get half the media coverage. The Urban Outfitters angle probably put this one over the edge.

user-pic

according to juvenile and the latest issue of blender, it call also be spelled "hoz."

user-pic

so where can i get it now that uo isn't carrying it?

user-pic

I'm not surprised. According to this article, the president of Urban Outfitters, Richard Hayne, "is an ardent Republican. He is a financial supporter of arch conservative Sen. Rick Santorum, whose recent comments about homosexuals equated gay sex with incest and bestiality."

"While the typical Urban Outfitters shopper is likely to be liberal-minded--as is the province and privilege of youth--the fiftysomething Hayne is mom-and-apple-pie conservative. He and his wife Margaret have contributed $13,150 to the campaign coffers of Paleolithic right-wing Republican Sen. Rick Santorum and his Political Action Committee over the years."

user-pic

It's also interesting that Chang isn't developing a Chinkopoly board game. Something that could be played at, say, a Susie-Wong-themed bar while wearing an A&F T-shirt.

user-pic

Seriously - David Chang better have "Fobopoly" up his sleeve, with Parental Support Cards like "You're dating someone of the same race but from an even richer family. Collect $1,000."

user-pic

I'm waiting for "Queer Eye for a Straight Down-and-Out Neighbourhood-opoly" myself.

The minute one of these shows up on E-bay, I'm on it. I, for one, am prepared to have a ghettofabulous time with the game. I mean, come on...stereotypes exist for a reason.

But, uh, I'm not prejudiced or anything. One of my best friends is black...

Urban Outfitters sold that "Chinaman" halloween costume also, right? Maybe kids are suppose to play Ghettopoly while wearing the Chinaman costume. That would be Urban's goal I think.

This board game doesn't have one unique aspect to it. Hip hop, for example, uses these images, words, phrases and stereotypes every day. I agree with SYN...these outraged black leaders best call for a similar boycott against BET, MTV and the like.

user-pic

i think SYN raises an interesting point about the preaching/pushing of ghettofabulosity... although sometimes it's hard to determine the fine line between legitimate cultural expression and marketable mechanisms.

this case, however, is definitley clear... the intended market for this game is for white college boys desperate to mask their priveliged, phobic suburban upbringings with a little street cred.

user-pic

how can so many people at UO look at that and think its a good idea. That being said, I can imagine it sold well in rich white suburbia before it was pulled. after all, the only urban thing about Urban Outfitters is...well....the word urban is in suburban.

user-pic

Coolfer and SYN: The problem is the person who came up with the game is not part of the group being stereotyped. My sister can joke about my frizzy hair, so can my husband. i know they love me and think I am gorgeous and that my hair is beautiful. A total stranger saying something about me would piss me off. I'm not saying that BET or some of the raunchy, disgusting videos are acceptable either, but it has a very different flavor when the crap is being spewed by and marketed to non blacks.

user-pic

so is ghettopoly pronounced "ghetto-opoly" or "ghetto-poly" or "ghett-ahpoly" or "ghet-dat-shit-outta-mah-face-foo"?

Either "hoes" or "hos" is presently correct -- since it's a recent neologism, I suspect the plural form hasn't yet achieved consensus. "Hoes" looks better to me, because it better indicates pronunciation, but it also suffers potential confusion with a plurality of the familiar agricultural tool. Certainly the plural form is not "ho's", which is reserved for attributing possession to the (singular) ho in question. (The Apostrophe Protection Society describes the correct usage of apostrophes: http://www.apostrophe.fsnet.co.uk/).

FYI. :)

user-pic

I'm sorry that Urban Outfitters pulled the game. Mr. Chang is a capitalist and has the right in this crude capitalist society to create and market any game he wants.
And anyone has the same right to buy the game.
It really doesn't matter who is offended when there is money to be made in our country.

That is why so many aspects of pop culture (see BET, MTV, Fox News, Rush Limbaugh, the career of Cameron Diaz et al) that are more insulting and superficial than funny and/or trenchant succeed in America.

to me, it's a sign of laziness and continued lack of intellectual curiosity to embrace this type of entertainment for a cheap laugh and fast buck.

user-pic

I wonder how people would feel if there were a game called "Gayopoly" that included a card saying "gave AIDs to everyone in your neighborhood" collect $50 from each player. Some of the same people who are saying not to be offended or take this shit seriously would be up in arms.

Of course there are bigger issues than stereotypes for black people in America. But within the context of unemployment for blacks being double that of the rest of America, anything that furthers an unjust, insulting, and ugly picture of black Americans makes their lives that much harder. In a tough job market, how people (employers and potential employers) see blacks is going to affect their success in getting and keeping jobs.

So U.O. brand (tm) hipsters and their liberal friends can laugh about how hilarious and ironic they are being, while they buy into (and literally purchase) stereotypes that are contribute to the the injustices that black Americans face in their daily lives.

And that hurts my feelings.

user-pic

that's the point, Dova.
no one cares EVEN LIBERals AND OTHER MINORITIES AND THEIR CHILDREN that someone's feelingS GET HURT by making money while reinforcing negative stereotypes
.
as long as the suffering is not directly impacting their livelihood and quality of life
it is all good.

AGAIN, i'm thrilled -- it's better to know the truth than continue to be deluded that we are living as united people in america.

user-pic

I agree, this game is a simple widget in a capitalist economy...nothing more, nothing less. This guy Chang has every right to market and sell this product, and it should be the individual stores' choice (ie Urban Outfitters) to carry it or not based on the image they wish to project. It is total BS that the black community like Sharpton among other groups are putting this down so fast. I am a middle classed white kid and hell make a cracka-opoly, prepboy-opoly, rich-opoly, or as someone even suggested, make a homo-opoly, i wouldnt take any offense to these games, even if in the case of cracka-opoly one might offend my own race. Its a freakin game, and I to on the way!

user-pic

Food for thought: Black Leaders and black community has for the most part defended (or at least not taken offense to) black hip hop stars, athletes and celebrities talkin up the ghettofabulous lifestyle, but when an Vietnamese american (Chang) takes his cut in the profits its a Mass Media Ordeal.....hmmm....somethings seems off here

user-pic

i fuckin hate how they have to be cocks and boycot a game do they ever watch comedy central or bet they are stereotipical all the time, bet black entertainment televison, if they made white entertainment television that would be stereotipical too

user-pic

When I first read about this game this morning I was not a happy camper. My kids are half black & I know I wouldn't want them even looking at this game. I totally agreed with the boycotts & still do, but as stated in earlier comments, what about the videos on bet, BET itself, the only reason hispanics have a different station is because of the language, but let white people get their own station (WET), the whole U.S. black population would go wild. and let's not even start on the songs. Are there no better songs to play for our kids to listen to? i heard a song in passing 2 days ago that was talking about nipples, what the ...? I agree with boycotting the game because it is offensive, all versions including the upcoming redneckopoly, but boycott all negative things our kids are exposed to, start with the songs & videos, one of the most influencial things kids are exposed to. Our kids will be the way we teach them to be. Why is such a shock that there are so many kids knocked up at an early age? that's what they learn on the radio & on videos, sex, sex, but nothing about being careful or respecting thmeselves. Boycott all across or shut up.

user-pic

It really amazes me how insensitive some people are to the feelings of minorities. Mr. Chang, if there is one, is not "capitalizing" in a capitalist society, he is making fun of blacks by "capitalizing" on social injustices that have been instituted in this country since slavery, and there is not a damn thing funny about that. I bet that if there were a JEW-opoly Mr. Chang would be under the jail. Anyways, why does this "Chang" man have a P.0. bOX adress? why did he decline the interview with CNN? nO ONE HAS EVER SEEN HIM! I wouldn't be surprised if this was the work of the KKK, disguised as someone of Asian desent. If you are out there Chang, show your damn face and I hope Hasbro sues the hell out of you. Just because MTV and BET show negative images and "hoodrich" lifestyles of blacks does not mean that all blacks support them. But it is a damn slap in the face when another "supposed" minority is ridiculing another culture. Also, if you all do your homework, you'd realize that the majority of rap music and paraphenalia in America is bought by white teens (78%). So the next time anyone talks about "target audience" realize just who you are talking about!

user-pic

to everyone who believes american ghettos were created in a vacuum, here's why a game (and other pop culture foolishness) exploiting someone else's poverty is a tad bit cruel (from Tim Wise's article on the game):

Chang1s game allows us to continue ignoring the most important issue:

namely, how did the ghetto become

the ghetto in the first place? Answers are easy to find, though

apparently Chang wasn1t interested in

discovering them, seeing as how doing so might have cut into his video

game playing and MTV viewing

schedule.

Fact is, during the first "great migration"of blacks from the south,

zoning laws (not to mention overt

violence) tightly restricted where people of color were allowed to live.

As a result of limitations on black

residential mobility, families often had to double-up in small

apartments, which were rarely taken care of by

landlords who had little incentive to improve their properties, since

they knew there was nowhere else for

black tenants to turn.

Then in the 1930s, the government began offering low-interest,

taxpayer-guaranteed loans through the

Federal Housing Administration. Millions of families took part in the

new program, and the American

middle-class was born. Over a thirty-year period, over $100 billion in

home equity was loaned through

these initiatives, but it was almost exclusively a white middle-class

created by these policies.

FHA lending guidelines made it clear that loans were off-limits to

persons who lived in "declining"

neighborhoods (and every black neighborhood was rated as declining), and

that, "If a neighborhood is to

retain stability, it is necessary that properties shall continue to be

occupied by the same social and racial

classes."

In other words, there would be few if any loans for blacks seeking to

move to mostly white areas either.  So

blacks were restricted to the urban core at the very time that the

"American dream" was being subsidized for

white families.

As if this wasn1t bad enough, local governments then began the process

of "urban renewal," which meant

the elimination of low-and-moderate-income family housing, to be

replaced by office buildings, shopping

centers and parking lots.

While hundreds of thousands of homes (one-fifth of all housing occupied

at the time by people of color)

were destroyed as part of this process, less than 10 percent of those

displaced-three-fourths of whom

were black-had new single-resident housing to go to afterwards, as

cities rarely built new units to replace

the old ones. Instead, displaced families often had to rely on crowded

apartments, living with relatives, or

living in run-down public housing projects.

Since then, most efforts to reduce crowding in public housing by

spreading subsidized residences

throughout working and middle-class neighborhoods have been blocked by

those who didn1t want persons

from the "ghetto" living near them. So the ghetto has remained isolated,

wracked by concentrated poverty

and all the problems that come with it.

Those problems include higher crime rates, family dissolution, inferior

health care facilities and thus,

greater levels of illness, and now, apparently, the privilege of

becoming the punch line in someone else's

idea of a joke.

None of the above history will matter much to Chang, I1m sure, or others

who think making fun of "crack

whores" is the epitome of high comedy. But it should matter to us.

---

he and others like him can do what he wants but behind the ho ho joking -- acknowledge there's real suffering going on and that he's trying to profit from it.

user-pic

Me personally, am not affended and i am african american. Would people still be offended if it was made by a black man. Look at our society today, everything is so typical, chinese sell chinken wings and french fries at the store because they think black folks like it, or how about the internet sites. Blackplanet.com is owned by an asian guy but yet there are millions of black people using the site with out a problem. I just don't get. It's time to pick our battles a little better. So you don't like the game, don't buy it!!! Oh yeah were can i buy it???!!!???!!

user-pic

I am just concerned about how blacks and their dollars are being exploited. Mr. Chang did not create a Chinkopoly game because no one would buy it. Record companies, BET, MTV, Tommy Hilfiger, Asian hair care or weave hair products sales people, nail techs, you name it are ready to get the black dollars.Pray for us as we need to keep our dollars amonst ourselves and exhibit self-sufficiency, self support, and an empowered race. Be wise with our dollars. MONEY TALKS!!! Food for thought!!!

There is indeed a boardgame called Gayopoly. It was released a year ago WITH the support of the gay and lesbian community. It has nothing to do with sex, drugs or any other deviant behavior. It has such support of the gay and lesbian community that 48 actual real businesses are on the boardgame that are either gay owned or gay friendly. THIS is the way a boardgame should be made! If you want to hear racism, just turn on the TV.

user-pic

I am from St. Marys. the very small, rural pennsylvania community Mr. Chang is supposedly from. As the Asian community in this town numbers...maybe 20...it is surprising that no one I ask about him seems to know who he is. I do not think the game is funny, original, or worth a dime. I do not watch BET or MTV and am in no way familiar with the hip hop culture. I can tell you that there are at the most 10 Black people who live in St. Marys, four of whom are my cousins. Mr. Chang certainly did not learn about hip hop or ghetto culture in his home town. Rednecks there are a lot of though.

I am ashamed to say that he is a fellow citizen of the town I have called home for over 50 years.

user-pic

You know what...I think Black people should fight to have this game removed permanently, fight to have BET be Black owned or not let the damn white man exploit Blacks in such a setting, fight to have the media balance the negative images of Blacks that they seek and portray everyday with positive images, fight to have the Black experience before, during, and after slavery incorporated into the educational system so that all can be educated about Blacks and stop viewing them as inferior so that there will be more positive images of Blacks to weigh out the negative ones or maybe the edia won't care to show the negative at all. Get real people, if Blacks made an attempt to take a stand against any of these things little or no progress would get done because not everyone has been educated about the Black experience and therefore do not care enough to make it happen. Even if there was a successful attempt, there is still a posibility of becoming physically enslaved. Many may not think it's possible but hell there still aren't any antilynching laws, there has never been an open appology by the american government for slavery in the united states, there has been no attempt to educate Blacks who for so long could not have an education. Yes most of that is history but because history has not been corrected or exposed because whites are ashamed of their past, it is still effecting the descendents of those who were actually slaves. so hell yes Blacks should be pissed off about the damn game. speak on that

user-pic

Everyone needs to lighten up. The only reason this game is being protested is because a black man is not making the money off of it. Think about it, Movies like "Friday" and "Next Friday" weren't protested against because African americans profitted off of it. But since a black man didn't create Ghettopoly, it should be banned. WTF is that about.

user-pic

I would like to get a copy of this game. Is there any out there? How can I get one? I would like to have some fun!

user-pic

Well this is only a game and being that there are a few more comming out soon, Hoodopoly, Hiphopopoly, Thugopoly, and yes Redneckopoly, this is not a means to pick on any one group of people.

Also I think one of the main problems with Americans today is the simple fact that they need to stereotype themselfs into some kind of group. If you live in the USA you are American plan and simple, there is no way to get over the race issue until all people can understand that.

What i mean by this is if you were born in this country then you are just AMERICAN not Polish-American, African-American, German-American, Italian-American, Chinese-American, Mexican-American, or like the guy down the street from me Canadain-American, get real he was bron in Canada and moved to the US when he was 10 so if you ask me he is Canadain yes he may live in America now but he was born in Canada.

This country will always sterotype people if they keep the system the way it is now. Sure it might be nice to beable to trace your roots back a few hundred years, but for the most part once you put a lable on yourself you are type cast to that lable and i disagree with that.

How many people in the this country call themselfs African-American and yet they were not born there and most likely will never get there in there whole like. Yet one thing most people forget is that there are white people in African too.

I have a good friend of mine who i have known for over 10 years thats from South African and he came to this country when he was around 20 to go to college. Around his 2nd year here he met a girl that was in school with him they fell in love and they married and now have 3 kids. Now for as long as i have known him he always said he was African-American and when it comes to paper work that keeps records of theses things he always checks that box African-American.

Only problem is that he is white so people look at this as a problem or that he is looking for something he would not get had he put down he was white or caucasian, and thats not the case because he is being trueful.

Some 20 years ago when i was in the Army they sent me to this country in Europe call Germany and i found it funny at the time that they had a sterotype for people over there too, but it was not a black and white issue as it can be over here in the US. Now over there at that time most of the Germans had a problem with the Turks, yes they would be the people that come from Turkey, in the 3 years i spent over there i lost count how many times i was told by friends of mine that were German to watch out for the Turks because they all carry KNIFES.

This was so un-true and to top it off not once in the 3 years did i see or hear someone being stabbed by Turks in the German news, oh and i did watch that though there TV sucked back then.

What i find sad is the fact that today there are people in America that think if you are African-American or Latino American and from the hood, block or ghetto your packing a 9mm and your ready to pop a few caps in the body of the first person that looks at them wrong.

This country really needs to grow up as well with most of the people in it, i recall when i was younger that America was called the melting pot of the world, but for some reason some colors or people dont want to melt, and until they forget about the past there cant be a future. Also i plan on getting the game and some of the ones that come out later.

user-pic

I have 3 words for you. GET OVER IT!!! If you have so much time to spend protesting use that energy and walk for cancer or something. I find it amusing that you can't buy this game on e-bay, but colored vibrators? (I'm sorry, back massagers.) HEY, No problem there.
Pick your fights people. Racism is older than politics.

user-pic

i think dis game is stpd, im not rasis, cuz i hav a fren hoos blak, but i jus think that da game is stpd, 1st of al, it shoodnt hav crak, mariwana, guns, an shit lik that. its jus plain dum. an ta al u pple hoo sad that othrs shood boycot mtv, etc., thay shoodnt, cuz then, it wood b lik takin tha blaks rits awy from havin ther own stashons, im in 7th grd, an i think i undrstand evrthing an old enof 2 say sompin bout dis. i hate pple hoo r rasis, cuz tha pple rnt difrnt, i bilev that pple r alowd 2 bilev in wuteva thay wana bilev in, an colrs r jus colrs, not RELeY them. ma nana i reley rasis. an i jus hate it wen she talks bout it. it jus sikns me. wel, GETTO go, ne1 hoo ha prblms wit ma mesge, mail me!
ps,
i watch da mtv, bet, etc. shows, so shut up ya foo!

I THINK THAT THIS KNEW GAME WAS CREATED BY SOME CRACKER TRYING TO SAY THATTHE ONLY WAY FOR BLACK PEOPLE TO COME UP IS BY SELLING DRUGS.WHY WOULD SOMEINE MAKE A GAME OUT OF THAT.WHO EVER THE PERSON IS WHO MADE THIS GAME SHOULD BE TOOKEN TO THE "GHETTO" AND TAUGHT A LESSON

user-pic

I think the game is harmless and it's a really creative, unique game. I understand why someone might perceive the game to be sterotypical, but watch BET and see if they really act/live like the sterotypical African-American. I think those who support Ghettopoly should purchase the game so he can have people backing him up by his sales report. You can buy the game at http://www.ghettopoly.com.

user-pic

KIANDRA KNOX...... if you did your research, then you would know that David Chang is the creator of the game and he is Taiwanese man. He is not a cracker, and someone should take you to school so you can learn to spell. (TOOKEN, SOMEINE)... wtf is that?

user-pic

I AGREE WITH NIVED AND JIMME JOE! IM A MINORITY BUT I DONT TAKE IT OFFENSIVE..YOU KNOW WHY! BECAUSE IT DOESNT HAVE ANYTHING TO DO WITH ME OR MY FAMILY! IF IT DONT HAVE ANYTHING TO DO WITH YOU...LEAVE IT THE HELL ALONE! AND IF IT DOES...THEN OBVIOSLY YOUR DOING IT FOR A REASON...SO IT STILL SHOULDNT BOTHER YOU! ITS A GAME WTF! IF YOU DONT LIKE IT THEN DONT BUY IT! NOBODY'S TWISTING YOUR ARM TO GO OUT AND PLAY IT! IT PISSES ME OFF THAT PEOPLE LIKE YOU CAUSE SO MUCH COMOTION ABOUT A LITTLE BOARD GAME...WHY DONT YOU SPEND YUR TIME BOYCOTTING BIGGER THINGS LIKE EATING ANIMALS OR SOMETHING I DONT CARE!

user-pic

Who cares that there's Blacks on there! They're commin out with "PIMP Juice" pretty soon. We should SUE Nelly for that. How come nobody is suing Vanilla Coke or Pepsi?? Isn't that Putting down the White RACe?? Or is it okay that everytime on t.v. we can watch Blacks make fun of how STUPID White people. Asians should sue the fuck out of Blacks for stealing their Asian martial arts and make it into a Stupid comedy In their MTV music videos. That creates stereotypes too!!

user-pic

Everyone is upset about the stereotypes of blacks in ghettopoly, how about the property pieces that says "Ling Ling's Massage Parlour"? or "Chico's Bodega"? or "Trailer Trash Court"? The maker David Chang, says himself that he did not target this game solely to black stereotypes. In fact there are stereotypes for all people on the board properties, but the media never mentions that.3

There are positive and negative stereotypes for every ethnicity. People need to educate themselves enough to know that stereotypes don't apply to everyone.

So to everyone that is protesting to try to stop stereotypes, I don't see any protests to stop the stereotype that "Black Men have big d**ks." I would like to see the NAACP protest that stereotype!

This isn't to justify who is the more stereotyped race, but to say, pick and choose your battles. The game is not any worse then the movie Friday but become someone non-black made it, it's now the most racist game out there. Give me a break.

user-pic

First I would like to say that after reading over the comments I find it interesting that people blame society for the way black people choose to live their lives. The problem with this country is that people point the finger at everyone else and no one takes responsibility for their own actions. I live in the south and in the south white people are discriminated against, if not more than blacks. No one has the right to judge, that's God's job, stop playing Jesus and get on with your lives. If you spent as much time on your education as you did this stupid board game you wouldn't be wasting your time reading this goddamn message and may'be your could get your black ass out of the ghetto. Damn, black people can be prejudice but white's cannot. I have been discriminated against numerous times because I'm white so don't sit there and act like slavery still exists, get over it!!!!

The comment: I wouldn't go as far as saying this falls under the category of "great ideas" but it definitely was a clever one. Lets see...take one of the most recognized American board games, change the name somewhat, slap a license on it, put it on your web site, market it to the generation X'ers, then make a few million. Hell, I’ll buy one for $39.95! As for the people who don't like it, I say, "when was bad taste a crime in the country".

The fix: Slap a Parental Advisory sticker on the cover and shut the hell up!

Below is piece I wrote called Ghettopolist regarding Ghettopoly. Enjoy!! -sd

==========================================
GHETTOPOLIST

Another day...another hustle...they say. Keep it real. I'm keepin it
about as real as Lil'Kim's boobs.

The pallor of normalcy has set in its icy grip and death has leaned its
crooked grinning face on my shadow. The bell tolls...and I walk the
sidewalks holding my pants up from falling to my ankles.

How in the hell can a man enjoy being awakened at 6:30 a.m. by an alarm
clock, leap out of bed, dress, force-feed, shit, piss, brush teeth and
hair, and fight upstream against heavy traffic to get to a place where
essentially you make lots of money for somebody else and are asked to be
grateful for the opportunity to do so?

I am grown and still haven't found a "real job." At least not one that
ignites the fire in my belly or the joy in my eyes and gives me something
to look forward to, to lay claim to.

The only "real job" I've found that makes me money and makes me happy is
playing my "Ghettopoly" boardgame (check Ghettopoly.com). It has "playas" acting like pimps and game cards reading, "You got yo whole neighborhood addicted to crack. Collect $50." But I have no one to play with. No kids in my hood, want to get down with me. So I play myself.

Marketed to white college boys desperate to mask their privileged, phobic
suburbanite upbringing with a little 'street cred', it stirred maad
contraversy last year because it demeaned Negroes. But so what? I'm a colud and I like it...just like I like how Negroes demean and caricaturize themselves on BET rap videos 24/7. A Chinaman being the creator of the
boardgame makes no difference. It's an investment that will be worth
thousands by the time it's passed onto my great-grandson. It will be a
collector's item.

I only wish life was as easy as Ghettopoly. Roll dice. Maybe land on
Ling Ling's Massage Parlor where I can get a free blow job...that would be
nice...or maybe land on Ray Ray's Chicken and Ribs...that would be nice
too. I'm hungry.

You guys are all crazy! Go to this link.

www.ghettopoly.co.uk

This game doesn't make fun of any specific race! There are all kinds and colours of people featured in the game. White kids and black kids around the world watch those pathetic hiphop videos, and have invented the 'ghetto culture'. It is this phenomenon that is being exploited. And why shouldn't this guy exploit such a thing? Everybody else does! There isn't a kid of any colour in the world that would think twice about accepting a record deal to make yet more ridiculous rap albums. They wouldn't give a monkeys about drawing on sterotypes, just as existing rappers, record labels, actors and film studios don't. I don't see the problem. If people find this offensive, they shouldn't buy it. Why do these people takes such offense at other people enjoying things they dislike?

Yo, I am a forty something white boy, I grew up in a place that this game reminds me of, I think it is funny. The things in this game were part of my everyday life. Why should anyone find it offensive. Besides many of the characters in the game aren't even black. No one would be offended if this game wasn't based in reality. G
