It's true: There is a Nancy Pearl librarian doll with shushing action.
The New York Times on Pearl, "celebrity librarian," (what is next, "celebrity alderman"?) who will be at the Mid-Manhattan branch of the New York Public Library tonight at 6PM (the saucily titled "Book Lust: An Evening with Nancy Pearl"). Perhaps her position as celebrity librarian is justified, as she oversaw Seattle's "If All Of Seattle Read the Same Book" program. We just wonder if we'll be seeing some celebrity chef action figures. "Rocco, with flirting action!" or "Wylie Dufresne, with Lower East Side hipster cool!"

NPR did a story just over a month ago on librarians and Pearl. Here's the link: http://www.npr.org/features/feature.php?wfId=1415714
Is it just me, or is the long shapeless jacket/long shapeless skirt/flat loafers look really, really Orthodox? Does anyone know if the original librarian this doll was based on (I forget her name) is Jewish?
It's also very Church Lady like.
Gothamist, with blogging action!
Why you should fall to your knees and worship a librarian.
"Wylie Dufresne with Lower East Side hipster cool" -- now that's comedy. Keep up the hilaaarious site.
We do love our books and coffee here in Seattle. Pitty there is no publishers except Fantagraphics comics here.... and Microsoft Press.
as a librarian I can attest that her outfit is very middle-aged librarian. Specifically, Eileen Fisher. Despite nice colors and drapey fabrics, that's exactly how Eileen's clothes would make you look. And in fact, many librarians do somewhat resemble orthodox women, without the wigs.
I know its eileen fisher because she mentioned it in another article, not understanding why people think she looks dowdy. Eileen is dowdy,if rather expensive, unfortunately.
That said, Nancy Pearl is probably not Jewish, but she is alright.
That's not a librarian, it's a man, baby!
