Animal lover and only known New Yorker to have had both a tiger and an alligatory animal in apartment, Antoine Yates, says he misses his tiger Ming. Even though Ming mauled him, Yates told reporters, "It's the pain in my heart that's really bothering me. It's like a part of me just left. I really do miss him." Which leads many to think Ming's new residence in Ohio is unfair to Yates. His sister-in-law says, "I don't think he did anything wrong, besides keeping it in a project. It needed its own plot of land, like 110th Street, Central Park." Tigers, roaming Central Park? That'll be like Ancient Rome! But it's true, Gothamist would miss its tiger if it were taken away from us while we were at the hospital being treated for mauling injuries.
Newsday also has a partial list of animals New Yorkers are banned from selling and possessing...if anyone has a hippopotamus in their apartment, please let us know first.
Aardvarks, dingos, zebras, bears, weasels, minks, skunks, ferrets, mountain lions, pumas, bobcats, wolverines, nonhuman primates, anacondas, pythons, Komodo dragons, snapping turtles, alligators, iguanas, eagles, hawks, falcons, vultures, roosters, ducks, turkeys, venomous insects and spiders, large rodents, deer, antelopes, sheep, giraffe, hippopotamuses, elephants, whales, walruses and marsupials.
Gothamist on the discovery of a tiger in Harlem and more about him.

He looked so sad on TV he nearly made me cry...I imagined him as some kind of psychotic macho Tony Montana wannabe, but really he's just lonely! can't he go live with Ming somewhere?
ferrets? iguannas? how can the city be against those? and large rodents?
ducks? once again proving that "Friends" could never really happen in NYC.
"nonhuman primates"?? So HUMAN primates are ok to sell?
This reminds me of the unfair ban on ferrets in New York City. Check out NYC Ferrets for more information. Here's some info from the site:
"The domesticated ferret is a legal pet in 48 states including New York State! The ban only applies to New York City's five boroughs. The domesticated ferret is also a legal pet in Canada, Mexico, Europe, Japan, New Zealand and Australia."
