Used and Abused

Coolfer has a great list of overused words/phrases/cliches in music reviews, such as "ethereal," "fully realized," and "new yet familiar." As terrible as it is to resorting to those words in any sort of review or article (and we're guilty of it), Gothamist is all for it, as long as people get to make fun fo those conventions.

Another great stab at dissecting entertainment articles: Fametracker's Mediator on a Vanity Fair feature on Colin Farrell.

I'm incensed that *incendiary* did not make the list, surely it's one of the worst.

where would colin's mirror image be from here in the states:

    upper-west side?

    long island?

    new jersey?

    suburbs of chicago?

    berkley?

and would he fake a brooklyn or queens accent?

would he drink pabst in williamsburg or brooklyn lager in fort greene?

there are a lot of colin farrell's here, think of some names...

all that's fine and good, but the most overrused word in music reviews is that god-awful 'seminal'.

  • Crap. I left out juxtapose. That's a top tenner.

  • Let's NOT forget "juxtapose"... ugh. To me this is about as bad as saying "the music features SOUND!"
