Diddy Runs The City

Okay, Gothamist has to give it up for the Diddy. P. Diddy's entry is going to bring more attention to the (ING) New York City Marathon that the New York Road Runners Club knows what to do with. We're not sure if this is a good or bad thing yet (Pros: Supporting great causes, showing that running can be for anyone; Cons: Takes attention away from the top runners and turns the event into a media circus), but it's brilliant either way, especially when he's saying things like, "Every child needs quality education and health care to train for the marathon of life," at his press conference. And his run is branded: "Diddy Runs the City," which is so perfect. Check out the official website: diddyrunsthecity.com (be sure to look at the "Host Committee").

As previously reported, MTV is sponsoring P.Diddy, and the other shoe has dropped: MTV is working on a reality show based on Diddy's training. OF COURSE they are. Diddy says he's only been training for three weeks and adds, "It's gonna be a rough one. Probably around the 13th mile, I'll really need your support -- water, Gatorade, whatever." Gothamist thinks there should be Diddy should help the NYRRC with the goodie bags for all the marathoners and make sure there are good refreshments along the way. Anyway, the Post reports that he has been running around Manhattan, but did not specify if it was from club to club.

I don't understand these people who say p.diddy is doing this just for the meda publicity but who the hell cares? If he wanted to he could just pay that money to the charity himself with out running this long intence run. Give him some respect!

Bravo! A great show of hard work and determination. Many a man or woman would cringe at the thought of screaming and sweating it out for all the world to see... even for a good cause. Kudos to P. Diddy!

I think it is wonderful that Sean Combs ran the marathon. Maybe now more individuals that have power and money will be inspired to do something to help the educational system. Why is it that so many people have a problem when a Rich Powerful Black man does something good, it is crazy to think that Diddy ran 26 miles just to get his name in the papers, he has more than enough exposure.

I think that Puffy should be commended for his efforts. He raised around 2 million for NYC's failing Public School system. Sure, he could have just put up a million of his own money but who would be inspired by that? I am inpired by the fact that he set a goal realistic to some, unrealistic to others and endangered his health and stood for facing possible embarrassment if he were to back out or not complete the race. Puffy completed the race in an hour over the time he was expecting and he may be a little dissapointed about that but he raised a million more than he expected and all of it is going towards a good cause. Shame on you who feels at liberty to bash Puffy. Why don't you run a 26 mile marathon in unseasonably warm weather on legs not accustomed to running! Try it, and we'll see if you are singing a different tune. (And the media attention worked if you knew about Puffy running the marathon. The more people who know about his goal, the more likely someone will be inspired by it).
