Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind

2003_9_eternal.jpgSo far, the work of Charlie Kaufman has only been adapted by two directors: Spike Jonze, with Being John Malkovich and Adaptation, and Michel Gondry, whose Human Nature was tepidly received but has directed the eagerly awaited 2004 release, Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind. Eternal Sunshine stars Jim Carrey, Kate Winslet, Tom Wilkinson, Kirsten Dunst, Elijah Wood, and Mark Ruffalo, with Carrey as a man trying to erase memories of ex-girlfriend Winslet from his mind. And by the looks of the trailer, it looks like vintage Kaufman AND Gondry, with tiny human bodies in normal size enviroments.

The company that supposedly offers the "memory removal" service, Lacuna, Inc., launches its website on Setpember 26, which is, in Gothamist's book, a red-letter day.

speaking of love of Sam Rockwell ... hopefully you all have seen "Box of Moonlight." Catherine Keener (as a blonde) and John Turturro also star in it. Great little film.

i was just about to agree with mr. case when i noticed justin's post--kaufman did write the script for confessions, which i never quite motivated myself to see, despite my abiding love of sam rockwell. there's something about george clooney.

  • Carrey is showing more and more Oscar desperation with every film.

    It's quite sad, really.

Grr...Desire to see Charlie Kaufman movie conflicting with hatred of everything Jim Carrey. Carrey has ruined every movie I've ever seen him in except "The Mask" and in that he was only good when the mask was plastered over his face.

I think you might be missing a director in your introduction. I could be wrong, but didn't Charlie Kaufman write the screenplay for Confessions of a Dangerous Mind, which was directed by George Clooney.
