Ah, mystery solved: It has been confirmed that Oscar-winning director Sam Mendes, lately seen lurking about a NY editing facility, has directed two new eBay commercials that will break on Thursday. While the seemingly cerebral Mendes seems an odd choice for the online auctioner's dance-happy commercials, Mendes has roots in the theater, and in NY, he is beloved for his collaboration with Rob Marshall that rescued Cabaret from the death-grip of Liza Minnelli and Joel Grey to be wittily reimagined by Alan Cumming and a motley group of stage and screen actresses as well as helping the Roundabout Theatre resurrect Studio 54. Cabaret's last performance is on November 2; no word on whether Cumming and Natasha Richardson will reprise their roles for the final performances.

i hate those eBay commercials.
more so than the welch's grape juice kiddies.
I think the ebay commercials are really cool. I'm interested to see what this one ends up looking like. The editor also cut my last project.
those commercials drive me nuts--i feel compelled to change channels when they come on--but i can't figure out exactly why, which drives me even more nuts. argh!
I love the newest Ebay Commercial ("Do you know the way to Ebay?")! Especially the dancers! They're amazing!
is that an orignal song? or from another song?

That's from the original song "Do You Know The Way To San Jose" by Burt Bacharach. The album was "Make It Easy On Yourself", circa 1967.
See http://www.artofthestates.org/cgi-bin/piece.pl?pid=68
I'm trying to remember the other commercials and their associated tunes; there's "That's Amore", "My Way", and I can't remember the first one I saw, with a woman on a highway, singing from vehicle to vehicle...
You can see all of the commericals at:

Umm I need the ebay commercial with the rather plump woman dancing on the crowded highway singing....if you guys know any sites it would be helpful..thanks

Does anyone know the name of the black singer/actor in the "On ebay" commercial?
Does anyone now the name of the actor in the Ebay commercial who plays this bored store clerk who breaks into song and says "Nice bling bling"??

His name is Christian Borle- he has been in many broadway productions.
But I thought Jaron Brass did these?
I like the commercial where that good looking guy whips out all the electronics and sings the ebay commercial to "That's Amore" I ususally see it when I'm watching American Idol. I was asking a friend at work if she knew who he was. We both had wondered if ha had ever tried to be on American Idol. Funny, how great minds think alike-ha ha. Anyway, I can't get that song out of my head. But I usually sing it my way. When the moon hits your eye like a big pizza pie--it's ebay. Keep up the good work ebay--I can't get the melody out of my head.
I love the EBay commercials. Thanks for identifying Christian Borle for me - so much better than anyone on American Idol, although I also love American Idol. Now who is the plump woman singing on the freeway on an earlier EBay commercial? She was really good, too.
You guys are fucking crazy crack adicts, all of you, shit!
Here's the question. Why did they go from "Nice Bling Bling" to "Pearlys On A Sting" in "That's on ebay"? and where can I get a copy (audio and video) of the bling bling rendition? the ebay website only has the pearl one for download.
Man o man i luv the ebay commercials with great passion. Ne one who doesnt is friggin crazy. And if u kno where to get the lyrics for that buisnass them lemmie kno. Much luv to yall MUA

Yay for Christina.. ahem.. Christian and his fabulous eBay commercial. While the eBay commercial is fabuuulous, nothing compares to seeing him sitting on top of a dog house with a typewriter singing about the daughter of the man who killed the maid.. I heart you!!! :-D
Yes, i agree with Steve (5-5_2004) why did they remove "nice bling bling"? Hmm,maybe something that upsets our conservative censors in this current administration.
This is similar to the "gellin like a felon" that was removed early from those shoe insert commercials.
thanks to Steve for pointing out one of the many subtle
changes that are going on in what is the so called
"Liberal Media". Come on folks, the "Media" is owned by rich Conservatives.
Those commercials are the BEST
Does anyone know who the blonde chunky woman is who is facing the guy when he busts out with the Amore-EBay song?
She looks like Betty Broderick (the socialite who killed her hubby many moons ago).
Thanks, it's driving me crazy. (Short trip too!)
Why oh why are the original commercials so hard to find?! Anybody have a link to the one with the portly bald fellow? I think that one is my favourite although the others are growing on me as well.
I just stumbled upon this web page looking for info on the eBay commericals. There are so many dumb commercials out there that I love it when someone just decides to have some fun and camp it up. That's why I love the "That's Amore" guy.
Adforum.com has details on the ebay commercials that are all the genius of the ad agency, Goodby, Silverstein & Partners
I love the Ebay commercials! They have a way of making you laugh at the dumbest things!
