the construction that was supposed to take only a few months has dragged on for an eternity. It seems they have hired a small crew that roves around like a band of gypies, replacing a few bricks a day on random buildings. what is especially heartbreaking is the beautiful fountain that was in place for 50 years, has been demolished. In it's place for over a year has been a fenced in pile of dirt and equipment. I live in a non-renovated apartment and it suits me fine. I'd rather not pay extra every single month for the same cabinet, year after year. I think what met life is doing is a shame. And the students do not respect the property - they leave beer and wine bottles all over the lawn.

Taking in the students that stay for a year or so doesn't that have something to do with moving the rents from rent controlled to over a certain limit and then making the apartment "free market rents".

Maybe they went to students because they weren't getting individuals who at $2,500 a month believe a door man is not the same as roving security or whatever services you expect from a "doorman building".

It disgusts me to see "big Business" at work, trying to displace older tenants with pets
to make way for younger applicants, who, will pay
lots of money for an apartment and stuff 4 people
into it.
Some of the older people have lived in Stuy town
for 30 years or more, and always had cats, birds, etc, and that was never an issue. Now,
with the renovations, the collecge dormitory influx, the pets have become a big issue.
I am sad to see that once again the older generation is abused again.
Shame on Met Life and Shame on the Management crew
of Peter Cooper and Stuyvesant Town.

I personally am sitting here at my computer in my apartment while a party goes on downstairs in my Stuyvesant town apartment. Doesn't seem right that I pay so much for a one-bedroom and it is hotter than hell, while I can't open my windows due to the cigarette and pot smoke emanating from downstairs.. The noise is unbearable. I am a young ( mid-thirties ) business man, who has to be up to catch a 6:00 train in the morning, but have to listen to this all night while I sweat instead. Why is my building ( and others) full of college children? Is this what I deserve for working my ass off and sitting on a waiting list for a year and a half?

I lived in one of the renovated apartments, and it's certainly worth the increase. Although the old neighbors, who will probably be priced out, will definitely be missed (FYI- old people like to bake cakes and lasagna for their young neighbors. Unfortunately a critcal factor that was overlooked in the rent increase debate!)
