Prospect Park Safety

2003_9_prospectpark.jpgPark Slope residents are worried about their safety while in Prospect Park in the coming fall and winter months, as the NYPD is going to lower the number of police officers patrolling the park from 26 to 11 for the rest of the year. The NYPD has done this in previous years, but after the recent attack of a young woman in the park, as well as other increased instances of prositution, drug use, and unseemly behavior: One Slope resident tells the Times, "There are people urinating, defecating, making love. They're drunk and stoned every day, and I have a 10-year-old and I have to walk her by that every day." As some of Gothamist grew up near the park, this reminds us of our sweet youth.

Wow. Prospect Park sounds like almost EVERY park in DC. I thought ya'll Brooklynites were hard, not a bunch of sissy pants tattle tales.
