New Planetarium Lightshow, Mixed by Moby

2003_9_sonic.jpgThe American Museum of Natural History brings back the planetarium lightshow with its new program in the Hayden Planetarium called SonicVision that is mixed by Moby. The music Moby chose comes from Radiohead, U2, Coldplay, Queens of the Stone Age, David Bowie, The Flaming Lips, Stereolab, Fischerspooner, Boards of Canada, and himself, naturally.

The Times takes a look at the new technology used in the lightshow, which does not include lasers, and the challenges of projecting onto a 75-foot in diameter spherical roof. The article also say the show is 35 minutes of "surreal three-dimensional visions that morphed back and forth from the purely abstract - a kind of kinetic, cosmic tie-dye - to whirling wheeled machines, seas of blinking human eyes, architectural forms and optical puns." And Moby tells the Times about the collaboration, "I'm a dim musician, but whenever I get an opportunity to get involved in science, I do."

Starting on Friday, October 3, there are four show times Friday and Saturday evenings. Buy tickets.

When you visit the Hayden planetarium nyc you will experience extraordinary images from telescope on the ground and in space and stunning , never seen before visualizations of physics based simulations. You can have a tour of new stellar formations, explore new celestial mysteries and discover the fascinating story that connects us to the stars. I bet you will not never see the night sky in the same way after you visit the planetarium.
