Swingers in Connecticut

2003_9_couples.jpgIt's the 70s again in Connecticut: Couple-swapping is back! A Berlin, Connecticut was busted for violating the town's ordinances on sexually oriented businesses. The club was charging $60 to enter the club, which is illegal, while couple-swapping is perfectly legal. The club also "allowed alcohol, featured enclosed booths and rooms, and lacked outdoor signs that identified it as a swingers club for adults only" - all violations, according to the AP report (via WNBC). Gotta love suburbia.

John Updike literally wrote the book on couple swapping: Couples. And The Ice Storm featured key parties and wife-swapping (read the book or watch the film.)

I do think Couples is set in Massachusetts. It's also very Cheeveresque, I think. Which then brings me to the Seinfeld episode where Kramer burns down Susan's dad's cabin where he shared many wonderful times with John Cheever.

See, New England has always had this taboo-sex thing going. Hester Prynne and all that. Everyone's up there acting all proper, and then behind the scenes the more serious sh*t is going down.

Because the fact is it's a massive boring suburb. The rich people get bored. The working stiffs get bored. It's too cold in the winter. So somebody says, "hey I know let's trade wives!" And the other bored people decide, "hey let's make an issue of that."

I bet this stuff has been going on for 400 years there.

Swinging is not only big there, but all over the US. I dont care how small your town is, I bet you have couples that area swingers there. There area more swingers today, then ever before and it is only getting bigger.
