I'm cool with more mentions of BBQ.

Okay, I need to call up Daisy May's and find out what time they close...I'm thinking I got the fever for some fine BBQ.

And that is a scary neighborhood. My friend JW was saying "Isn't that where all the hookers are?" and I tried to say "No, it's gentrified!" but then I was in a cab on 11th Avenue and I wouldn't want to be there when it gets dark, unless I'm dressed like the Michelin man, you know, somewhat padded and protected.

I hereby pledge to work some reference to barbeque into every single comment I leave on Gothamist from this point forward (or at least until I forget).

Oh how I love when Gothamist conversations about the weather turn into discussions about BBQ. That's why we love you, Paul and Jen!

I hate Isabel. I was supposed to close on my house tomorrow, but no insurance companies will pick up new accounts until after she blows through.

Yes I have, and I gotta say that it was pretty good. Far superior to the slop that they serve at Dallas BBQ -- two kinds of pork ribs, big giant beef ribs (actually, just a singular rib that you can then wield in self-defense), a hearty selection of sides, and it's cheap, too! The only downside is that it's pretty much a take-out-only kinda place, as it's 1) kinda in the worst neighborhood south of 96th street and 2) it lacks, well, chairs and tables.

But yeah, I think you'd like it.

Hmm. Gloria was not fun. I remember having to sit in a basement for 24 hrs as all of our trees belw down...then being without power for a very long time. Don't forget Hurricane Bob. I think that was in '89, though not as bad as Gloria.

Have you been to Daisy May's, Paul? Tell me tell me tell me!

Also, thank you, Matt, for the handy link. Apparently my building is in an unclassified zone, even though two blocks directly south of me is Zone A.

I think that a stay-at-home hurricane day would be a perfect excuse to eat several cows worth of barbeque (preferably from Daisy May's on 46th and 11th Avenue).

NYC Hurricane Evacuation Application

"To find out whether your address falls within one of New York City's hurricane evacuation zones, enter your address location and click on the 'Find Location' button."

I live in a "Zone C" area.

"Zone C, as visualized by the following color [yellow], was defined based on potential storm surge from a category 3-4 hurricane. A hurricane of this size would be unlikely in New York City, but not impossible. Zone C includes areas that would be removed from any pounding surf. But these areas could still see tidal flooding in a very powerful hurricane."

i actually remember hurricane gloria. i have memories of my parents on ladders taping the windows with duct tape. i'm not sure that duct tape is actually an effective way of preventing glass breakage though.

i would also agree with said person from long island. i think it would be fun in a way. i'm hoping there will be a day off work.
