Let There Be Light Cycle

2003_9_lightcycle.jpgAs part of Central Park's 150th birthday celebrations, the an elaborate fireworks display called Light Cycle will go off tonight at 7:45PM. By Chinese artist, Cai Guo-Qiang, there are actually three stages of fireworks: First, "Signal Towers," five pillars to recall ancient communication methods. Second, various circles of light, "Light Cycle," including a turning ring of fireworks, which Cai calls "amulets placed over the heart of Manhattan." Last, "White Night," which will apparently create a canopy of fireworks over the Park.

- Fourth of July: 8,000 shells fired over 27 minutes
