Panda Baby Production Is Up!

Fertile panda mommy Qing QingSuper fertile pandas are producing many baby pandas. The new world record is Qing Qing (pictured), who has given birth to 13 baby pandas in nine births. Damn!

This leads Gothamist to hope that some day, people can have pandas as pets and that we will be caring for a panda in our apartment. We'll get bamboo shipped to us, we'll create air-conditioned "grottos" in the corner of our NY apartment living room - next to the TV, we'll make ice cakes filled with apples and carrots for panda birthdays, we'll take the panda out to Riverside Park for some fresh air...Life would be good.

Could the panda double as your bed at night? Cuz I'm not sure a panda would fit in my apartment, as much as I'd want one. And with all those babies she might be making, I'd be a little scared to arrive home one evening to her getting some panda panky with another bear...

i don't know... Pandas can maul people pretty easily when fully grown. Then again, people do manage with pet bears and such. meh!

I've been reading Gothamist for a few months now, and I guess it's no secret you guys have a "thing" for pandas. Who can blame you? They are so darn cute.

would gothamist allow kids to ride on her pet panda?

Look at that little pink baby panda. If only human babies were that small when born! No pain!
