Man Ships Himself in Air Cargo Crate From NY to Dallas

Novel and crazy, Charles McKinley shipped himself in a wooden air cargo crate from New York to Dallas. When the crate was at his parents' suburban Dallas home, he pried himself out shocking the deliveryman. McKinley, en-crate, had been shipped via a pressurized 727 and was arrested on outstanding Texas warrants after the deliveryman called the police. Authorities are trying to understand how this happened. An FBI agent from the Dallas field office says, "It's amazing that the gentleman survived. It's absolutely a bizarre case. Our concern at this point is to determine how this was done."

Holy. Gothamist was, of course, instantly reminded of the Velvet Underground song, The Gift, where Waldo Jeffers packs himself in a box to his girlfriend. Waldo was not as lucky as McKinley.

I know - I sort of wish he had done it and was hurt from the pressure or something.

There is a very early (think first-Nixon-administration-early) Doonesbury strip where Boopsie mails herself as a package to BD's bootcamp. Unfortunately, the Doonesbury archive only goes back a year before it asks you for money.

It appears if he could have waited 5 more minutes till the delivery dude left he'd have gotten away with it.
