The Post reports that the NYPD is stepping up its presence in subways, to prepare for a subway gas attack. There's been more terrorist "chatter" to the effect of some sort of attack, and the subway stations under close watch are: Downtown Brooklyn, City Hall, Grand Central Terminal and Penn Station. Brother, just the thing to read just before or after the morning commute.
Additionally, the FBI's NY director, Pasquale D'Amuro told WNBC that there are terror cells in New York. Gothamist understands that Director D'Amuro is trying to expain that there is still a lot of work to be done, so with this new information, we'd like more results, less talk.
More about Pasquale D'Amuro from the FBI.
The city responded quickly when there was a suspicious package at the Canal Street 1/9 station during the summer (photo, top).

I noticed last night and again today that there were no police on either side of the F-line tunnel into and out of Manhattan. Usually there are 2 police posted at both the E. B'way station and the York St. station. Maybe they were taking a coffee break, but their absence caused a bit of concern.
I saw police at Times Square. They did make me feel better, though maybe I'd prefer them to have their gas attack gear. But I'd like them to distribute the gas attack gear to all passengers. Hear that, MTA?
Could someone please tell me what the "Downtown Brooklyn" stop is? Boro Hall? High Street? Jay Street? Court Street?
Downtown Brooklyn: My guess is they're talking about the Atlantic Avenue-Pacific Street complex. It's the largest and busiest station in the BK and was also the target of a narrowly foiled bombing in 1997.
