New York shopping instution Barneys has unveiled a new website, complete with online shopping (though for only a very limited selection of products). Gothamist is intrigued by the bizarre plush tree stump with two cubbie holes (go to "Shopping," then "Home & Baby Gifts," then finally "Baby Gifts") selling for $150 - can this fit cats or bunnies? And if yes, we want them to create some sort of menagerie in our apartment.
Another great feature is in "About Us" - some of art director Simon Doonan's fabulous holiday windows are available for viewing. We love this 1999 window of James Brown made of CDs and afro picks. We're sure Simon designed the windows at Barnes & Noble promoting his book, Wacky Chicks.

what is the point of launching their website without clothes?!?! what's up with just accessories? isn't the whole point of the site to shop?? genius.
I know - it's crazy there aren't clothes for puchase on the site. But maybe they have problems with a return policy from online ordering... I don't know...or maybe if they start with only some clothes, they'll have to put all on... It's crazy - they don't want to make money!
wow. the new version of the Barneys site looks like total crap.
This new version is really disapointing. I was looking forward to shop from their site. The last version was much better...

The barney's website is a duck. It's so annoying when you want to send someone a gift you have to drive to the store. I'd rather just shop NM or S5K. Hopefully someone at Barney's reads this!
